fostex a 8 tape recommendation???

Just bought a fostex a-8 8 track 1/4 in......Can anyone recommend a good brand of tape? I 've done lots of cass. stuff, but don't know much about reel to reel. Is there a certain type that should be used with this deck?..............any help would be appreciated!!!
 
Can you find out what the previous owner used? Chances are it was Ampex/Quantegy 456. But, if you can, check with the vendor just to make sure.

If he/she doesn't know (for whatever reason) then it might be worth spending a bit extra to get a tech to set it up (AKA biased) for your choice of tape. I'll leave it to others with more experience to provide guidance in this matter.
 
Thanks, The previous owner doesn't really know anything about it. It was his dads. I'm actually buying it without knowing if it works...EEEK! I need to get some tape and fire this thing up. But I don't want to experience trouble due to wrong type of tape. Is there a brand and type that would provide good results if the machine isn't biased correctly??
