Ive been working with my recordings 2 ways....
Im using my Digitech RP 100 for a preamp/processor
and My Fostex 4 track as a mixer/recorder.

I can either record my tracks right to tape, or use the 4 track as a mixer and record to my hard drive.

The tracks sound great when monitoring through the headphones, but when I mix down to my hard drive, I get the almighty annoying hissing sound, and the quality of the recording is greatly diminished.

I dont have this problem if I skip recording to the tape, and to straight to the hard drive.

Any Ideas to upgrade the quality?

Thanks in advance.

Demensia.

Is your recorder digital or tape based? If it's tape based, that's one posible problem. Either way, make sure you have a good signal -with good levels- going "to tape." That's one place to start.

Im using a Fostex XR-7.. All the levels are nice because Im using my digitech rp100 for a pre-amp. The hiss must be comming from the transfer from analog to digital.. perhaps my soundcard blows... (suprise, suprise) ..

I'm still in the dark ages and have no experience with soundcards. Good luck to you. Hiss DOES bite the big one!
