Hi ,
I'm new to recording,and was offerd a fostex 160.
Couldn't find much about it on the net.
What do you say?

It's an excellent machine, that's what I'd say. Just released the second full album CD recorded at home using the fostex vf160.

It's 16 track BTW, not 4 track.

As with any form of home recording though, the results you get will reflect the time you invest in learning how to record in general and use this equipment in particular.

But there's no reason why you shouldn't get the Vf160 and expect excellent results.

I think the 160 is a 4-track cassette multitracker. Worth a look if it is an absolute bargain and you couldn't find a Tascam 4-tracker. Does it record at double-speed?

4 track

It is a 4 track ,cassette recorder ,it's supposed to be
made in the 80's.

Yes it does double speed.
what would you call an "absolute bargain "?

$150? Seriously I have no real idea of the real prices and it depends upon the condition - I couldn't get that for my Tascam 244 the state it is in even though it's fully functional. I just wouldn't spend more than $150 of my own money on a cassette multitracker. Do a comparison with the prices of the digital 4-tracks to make sure no-one's getting carried away with the "analogue" thing.
