I just reformatted drive C and reinstalled XP.

Now I can't use my USB ports, and the "found new hardware wizard" does NOT work so I can't even install my M-audio Delta 44 card.

Could be a mobo problem. You may have to take it to the shop for repairs. Usually, if a reformat doesn't work, I'll pass the buck. One thought; check your mobo BIOS settings and ensure that the USB Ports are active. Good Luck.

If you install Windows with componants in the pc that it has no included drivers for - it often ignores them!
Remove them and Start up. Shut down again, plug the device in. It should find it on the next start. If not, try a different pci slot or usb socket.
The new M-audio Delta driver (.46 and later) can be installed BEFORE you fit the card, as it simply puts the files in Windows driver cache so the new hardware wizard should automatically install if you let it.

USB audio and midi interfaces often need you to let Windows install its own basic driver, and then you use the update driver process to install the makers driver. Check any readme files with the driver or other install info for the correct procedure.
Sometimes you should install a USB driver BEFORE plugging in. In this case, if the device was already plugged in, it will not install!

this is what my device manager looks like

I also tried to use one of those Flash memory units, but my usb port could not reconize it! Before I reformatted everything, all was fine.

Check Windows Update .... maybe SP1 will help.
I wouldn't do SP2 though. I don't see it as being needed for a DAW.

for me, the drivers for the universal serial bus were on my motherboard's driver disk.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Eraos hit the nail on the head. The USB drivers ARE on the mobo driver CD, along with the network drivers (assuming it has a NIC on the mobo).

I used the CD-ROM and installed the USB 2.0 drivers, but the computer still can't reconize them

Frank - What kind of computer is it, Or better yet, what is the chip set on the mobo ?

Usually the manufacturer will have downloads available on their web site for the mobo.

Go to Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager. Expand the USB tab. You should see something similar to the attachment. Send your picture back.
