I'm recording a 4 min R&B song in my fostex mr-8. THe chorus will be sang 4 times(verse after verse). Instead singing the chorus over and over again, is there anyway that I can just copy the part and paste it on another track in the different part of the beat? See I want all four parts of the chorus to sound as alike as possible.

can you explain to me step by step please?

For example, I did the first chorus on one track. What do I do now? Copy it and paste it on track 2? Then what? (how do I set it on a position of the beat that I want it to come?)

Hi,
On page 70/71 it describes this process in detail but:
1) Set Locate A and Locate B on the music to copy
2) Hit Menu, Part / Copy Part / Copy Track / enter
* that should save that music
now
3) Set Locate A where you want to put the music
3) Hit Menu, Part / Paste Part / Paste Track / enter
and va-wha
Hope this helps

hey yo redstar, thanks! I got it but there's just one problem. What if I paste the part a little late on the beat, is there anyway I can move it a second earlier? See I want the voice to be really on the beat.

Hi,
You should be able to hit undo / reset Locate A and paste it again.
Maybe throw in a cymbal crash, something like that !
Just guessing !

yeah just try to work out ur timing.... also if u have a computer, try exporting the files to ur pc and then do the editing....

well i'm telling ya'll it's REAL hard. Is that how they work in the professional studios? or they have something that makes it perfect on the beat?

Are you using bars/beats or minutes:seconds for your timing on the MR-8? If you use bars/beats, the locate points "snap" to the nearest beat.

Well, if you are having trouble locating on a specific beat, it makes sense bars/beats would be easier than trying to do it by minute/second, etc.

yeah but if your singing (or playing is off time) then it won't matter if you cut and paste to the perfect bar/beat anyway, that is why having a computer program that can do complex editing (i.e. bar/beat and than be able to modify the timing of each note you sing/play ...). the MR-8 editing IMHO simply does not offer that kind of freedom and precision (of course I never expected it to anyways and why would I want to slave over each bar/beat of my song,I'll never finish recording it:)

You might just want to punch in and record every part rather than trying to cut copy paste etc. I am sure as you get more experience with the MR-8 you will be able to figure out by trial and error when it is appropriate to use that feature.

clifchamb, are you sayin that using the auto punch is better than copying and pasting?

Well I would try to copy and paste first. But if the timing still doesnt sound right then I would just punch in and record the part again. I have been pretty pleased with the auto punch, in fact it is the only way I record vocals sice pushing the MR-8's buttons seemed to get pickud up in my recordings.

what page is it on the manual should I look on?

Start with Page 35 (page 36 talks about the auto punch in/out).
