Rock Steady
hi folks... sorry I been sorta in and out lately. I`ve had too many irons in the fire. Anyways, here`s a little jam I was doing and thought it might be fun to stick it in the challenge thing. Everything is pretty much straight on without any dollying after mixdown. The bass is thru the ART compressor though. I didnt go back and get any drum glitches out either so "nah nah nah..." :)

Cool groove, Kenny. I love the bass tone. Man I got melodies running all through my head for this. Beautifully wide open instruments.

Sounds like a little chorus on that bass too. :)

Smooth music...love it!

For not having any effects or eq, this sounds pretty damn good over here! Well balanced and some fine playing.

I am totally digging this! Very nice!

I wish it were longer ... (Wait, that didn't come out right ...)

:)

I liked it. Listening on lousy work speakers, can't offer much constructive. Sorry.

Are you gonna turn it into something? How'd you record it?

'appreciate it Sluice. Your right about the chorus, its inline right after the ART all the time on the bass, even playing live, but it`s set to just barely ripple the envelope so the note doesnt sit still. The rules allow it I think, but anyways I didnt think about turning it off. :)

'glad you liked it. I`ve got a small bunch of stuff that might be something some day, maybe, uhh maybe. :)
I used Gold drums thru a livesynth. Steinway grand sample and washburn electric sample thru livesynth pro. The organ is a dxi B4. The bass is my custom Washburn 5 string thru an art preamp and chorus barely turned on, then into the Tascam mixer. I just set the levels fairly close and bounced to a track. I didnt have the piano up loud enough so it's almost missing but I didnt want and was too tired to go back and fool with it.

Cool jams, dude!

I had to crack up on a couple of those drum riffs though. LOL!:D

Diggin the bass tone. Comp & chorus are acceptable FX for bass in my book. Lotsa guys have 'em in their rigs. I went for the straight-shot thing myself. Just a tad of tube.;)

Nice riffin' in there! :)

Yeah, that work thing keeps getting in the way of my life too.

Great groove. Even naked. I like where you're going with it. It has that "two o'clock in the morning" sound, ya know what I mean?

Hey Toki, i was diggin this bigtime until that bass note at 0:21 :D , when my daughters picture came flying off the wall! haha, just having fun widga. Extra kool groove man, that bass tone sounds great..the way you played it aint to shabby either:D

nice riffage. a little buzzy on the bass frets...but adds some interest also....aka realism.

Yeah...a soulful lead on this would be there, mingling with the bass.

Nice job-I like it-The bass doesnt have that sweet high end that I usually hear on your stuff-but still sounds good and well played. Great soloing groove...Reminds me of a movie scene--A guy walking through the city at night or something like that....Sounds fine for no tweaking...

Cool groove....needs melodic vocal and a smokin guitar on top of it.

I've heard two seconds and I'm already loving this.
...dude, you're a god...
!..it's over?

I'm really disapointed this wasn't a whole song, I guess I should have taken your post more literally. Sounded great tho.

Shoot. This is gonna be SWEET when it's done.

This "dry" thing was a cool idea.

Great groove.

Chris

This sounds good. Reminds me of when we used to do tracking in "real" studios and we'd listen to the tracks before the mixer got his hands on them. A lot of times, I liked those pure tracks better than the finished and polished mix! This definitely has that vibe.

I think we may need a special HR T-shirt:

Go Naked!

Toki (aka groovemaster)

We need some counterpoint in the upper-end to compliment the bass melody! You're singing with that Washburn! (Then we'll deal with a bridge.)

Nice 'dry' recording even w/ the drum glitch!

Ralph

Nice as hell.

Damn Toker man, this is one of the smoothest sounds I've heard you do...the groove and mix sound sweet.

Dude, please do us a favor and go ahead and "bore" us with the rest of this, lol.

Me likes.

You know, he didn't volunteer or anything, but I think Kramer would be the PERFECT candidate to lay down some tastey guitar over this.

This sounds dry and yet at the same time it sounds finished. I think it achieved the objectives of the challenge very succesfully.

I imagine that the rest of the process to finish this will be cake. Just slap on some laquer and bam place it in the window.
