Yes, I'm on approaching the 250 level, which I've wanted so long...

Let's see, where was I?

Here is today's meaningless and pointless post.

...the Gideon starship was now in the sol system. Zoe had made his choice. He would take his chances on the hot planet and avoid death on the frozen ball of ice...

...he didn't have much time to ponder whether he had made the right decision or not. The Gideon didn't have much power, or fuel left. The comp had obviously kept Zoe in hybernation as long as possible, 12 years to be exact, in order to give him the best possible choice of a reasonable planet....

...and what fucked a up planet it was! It had an orbit less than half of an Earth orbit from its sun. This star was a red dwarf, and large, but hot enough to burn the ship to a cinder on the day side. But Zoe was going to land on the night side...

...the data from the comp planet survey showed that this planet had some unusual charateristics indeed. It was burhing up on the day side with an average of 250 degrees F, but the night side was a reasonable 95 average temp. And it rotated slowly: one day was equal to 60 Earth days....

...this would make lilfe interesting, IF Zoe could survive the landing...

...the world was now close enough for more detailed scans. Just 4 more arcsecs away....

...it was certainly bleek and black. The night side was so dark that it was like a hole in space, with no defining features at all....just a little closer, 3 more arcsecs....

...Zoe's brain was clicking like a tickertape machine. It was a primal instinct of survival that was now kicking into gear. Something from old Earth so long long ago: when something half human and half animal rose on its feet in the savana of Africa....

...whatever it was it was guiding him now. His idea was to land on the part of the dark side that had just passed the sunset into the 30-day night. Then he'd have 30 days to rethink his predicament until the sun burned him for 30 days...

...just a little farther now, the visual was gaining more and more detail. The ship's lights were cutting through a sort of grey dark haze. Shapes were visible. 300 meters. 200 meters. 100...the comp took over as the fog engulfed the Gideon. Zoe had landed!

[TO BE CONTINUED]

should I go the same way as all the other 250 approachers...?

You can do it!
Hang in there!!
I'm pulling for you!!

Sorry. I'm giddy with exhaultation. And a glass o' "Red Truck" wine from California. :D
