I'm trying to decide wether to return my dell or just have it fixed. I bought it through the business division so they offer pretty good service. After a blue screen one of the PCI slots was not working for my soundcard, but the other two worked fine. So they offered to replace the MOBO. My question is could there be other problems that caused this problem such as the casing or slot brackets being faulty or even the connectors to the mobo?

If it was working when you purchased the computer, then it could of been due to something after.

It could be a number of things. Anywhere from physically dropping the computer to an incorrect installation of the soundcard. So if they offed to replace the mobo, thats probably the best idea.

I agree with LRosario; it could have been caused by any number of things.
Another possible cause... bad power supply and/or "dirty" AC going into the computer. I'm assuming that you had the unit hooked up to a good surge suppressor? (i.e., APC)

You'd be amazed at how many times I see people with new computers hooked up to a dollar store type of suppressor. It's like buying a BMW, and filling it with cheap no name gas.

some bioses allow turning off pci slots.
I'd check and make sure that everything is kosher in the bios.
