For all you stomp box afficionados... (or not)

Do any of you know if there is a distortion pedal out there that *acts* like a volume pedal? What I mean is- I'm looking for a pedal that is not actually a stomp box, but has the mechanism to go from clean to dirty in a *gradual* manner, not just: stomp = 1, stomp = 2... know what I mean?
I'm assuming it would have the shape and design of a wah or something, but I've never seen or heard of this concept anywhere and so I just wanted to know if it actually does exist. I can't imagine they would be that hard to make.
So yeah, anyone?
 
The DigiTech's RP series with the foot pedal on the side will do this, but the RP-10 that I have lacks the distortion desired by most people. However the newer ones do have a better distortion's and some even have a built in tube. Anyway, they have a foot pedal that can be used as a wah pedal, volume, panning, flanging, or distortion (among other things.) Check out the RP-7.
 
Are the pedals you mentionned anything like the Digitech Whammy? I've heard nothing but good things about that one, but I'm assuming it doesn't have what I need because you didn't mention it. Do you know if the dist on the RP-7 is like a standard "fuzz", or more of an overdriven tube kinda thing (which happens to be what I'm looking for)? I play through a Marshall Valvestate combo right now, but I'm sick of the whole "clean verse to overdriven chorus and then back" thing and I need something with a little nuance, (so that I can *build up* to big loud distortion parts more effectively) without forsaking the integrity of my sound. Heh. Make sense? (Thanks for you reply by the way!)

Well my .02 cents is...
Digitech dosent have great distortion.
I like the Boss GT-3 I have one and you can asign the pedal to the gain on ur distortion so you can gradualy or quickly change sounds.
It has more drives that a digitech it has like 11 analog drives and a few amp sims with gain.
check it out and no i dont work for Boss I just love the GT-3.
 
The RP-7 does have tube overdriven distortions. The RP-10 (the first one in the RP series, I believe) does not have a tube and offers "grunge", "heavy sustane", and "overdrive" distortions. All the other RP's have more distortions and the newer ones (like the RP-7) offer tube distortions. One thing to look for on the RP's is the parametric EQ. With this you can shape the over all signal to help get the sound you are looking for. With the RP's you will also get alot of other effects, chorus', flanges, phasers, wahs, etc... If all you need is a distortion pedal in a "wah/volume pedal" format, then the RP's might be too much for you. I think I have seen stand alone distortion pedals in this format in musicians friend catalog for alot less cost than the RP's. As with all other instruments and effects, you should go the your local music store and try some out. If your like me and dont have a good store in your town, maybe its worth paying the shipping costs to order some equipment, try it at home, and send it back for something else if it doesnt suit your needs. I believe that musicians friend will do this also..

Hey do you actualy like the rp's? I had a RP-3 and hated it.
I recently tryed a used rp-10 and hated it. It was the right price though I may still get it. $99.00!!!!

they do make them... but I forget what their called.. whenever I went to try one, there were none.

Anyway, I knew a guy who only used good distortion (aka ts9) .. and he wanted that, so he got a PAN pedal (like a volume, only 2 outs.. and the pedal goes one to the other..)
anyway, he got a PAN pedal and put his distortion after one side and his other side to his amp, so he could dial in any amount of distortion...

PAN Pedal? That sounds like it's what I'm looking for! Is PAN the make of this pedal? I've never heard of it... Is it a fairly popular item?
 
non, a stereo Pan pedal... made by ernie ball. like a volume, only instead of going up and down it went back and forth.
