see, this was a passing thought that amused me for a moment. i thought to myself "who else would find this funny? maybe musicians and music gear people." apparently not, and now you people have made it a bigger deal than it ever should have been.
and chessrock, are you trying to make fun of my guitar playing? you don't even know me. i am not a guitar player. why are you flinging random insults at people you know nothing about? i'm not hurt by your "pizza delivery career" comment, just confused as to why it exists.
here's what i'm saying: playing things backwards is the ONLY effect you could never do in realtime, because it requires that the sound already exist before you apply the effect (ie, flip it backwards). what if time travel became so commonplace that it were applied to everyday stupid little applications? you could have an FX box that looks ahead, sees what you're GOING to play a few seconds in the future, then flips it. realtime reversal.
