I wanted to post this as a separate thread so you guys won't think I was still having problems with this mic project. I finished it and wanted to thank Marik and paddyponchero for all their assistance. These guys and those like them are the diamonds in this website's crown!
This project is officially a success as far as I'm concerned. The mic is complete and fully functional, so I've dubbed it the "Fony C-37A" since it's a clone of the Sony. (with some obvious modifications) Those who haven't followed, it started as a bid for a mic on ebay and slowly took on a life of it's own when I decided to attempt to build the whole thing myself.
This thing is extremely smooth and silky with great bottom end. It's the best mic I own now, hands down, though I don't have the most impressive mic collection. (It's actually somewhat meager) That's why I wanted to build this and see if I could get a "pro" product on a budget. Success!!
Thanks again guys! If you're ever in L.A., pints are on me!!
