Only $550 from BayViewProAudio, and you get a FREE Cascade VX20 large condensor mic!

I think they do a pretty good job cramming a lot of good features in to one box. A nice thing for a project studio to have on hand.

I don't have the TwinTrak but I've used another Platinum series unit, The Trakmaster. These low end Focusrites are great if you are starting out and need an all purpose device to handle EQ/compression and a better preamp than those included in many lower priced stand alone hard disk recorders. You have to remember, however, that Focusrite has made some shortcuts in order to pack the unit with multiple features. As a result, you can't expect a full parametric EQ and complete control over compression settings. On the TwinRak, for example, you can set a specific compression threshold but the ratio appears to be limited to two settings. Similarly, you are able to adjust the release time in increments but the attack is either fast or slow. As you become more experienced this becomes a limitation.

On the preamp, keep in mind that this is not one of Focusrite's high end preamps. I beleive that the company makes these in China and, for the price, there are certainly other choices in the same price range (e.g., RNP or Grace Designs 101).

Hi I have a trackmaster, and I love it, loads of good features really well built - use it as a pre and also for vocal compression in the mix. Have only heard good things about the platinum range - my uncle has a Penta and says its really good.

If you go that route, see if you can save $50 and have them keep their mic. You'll notice an abundance on ebay.
