I thought the lead guitarist should do "fills" with that kind of an idea rather than a long lead presentation.

But in his defense, as much as that kind of soloing gets on my nerves, it keeps the energy level up.

It's one of the last real rock and roll songs, but no lead guitar.
It has a nice modal connection.

The A-chord is key of D.
The C-G-D chords are key of G.
This gives the C#-D and Eb-E transitions a "handle"
Every note from B up to G "works" if played at the right time.
