This is the first song I've recorded with my new SM81 and Blue 8Ball.
Its actually a song for my singers solo project and I just did a quick solo and background vox.

Hows the recording sound to you guys? Is there anything obvious that I could do?

It was mostly an "I got new gear, lets record something" deal.

One thing I noticed is that there seem to be some low end pops that sound like plosives, breath noise, stand noise, etc. Were you using a pop filter on the vocals? Do a high-pass as high as you can get away with on basically everything, since there's no bass or kick drum or anything... the low end rumble isn't something you musically want there.

On the solo, that sounds to me like a pure piezo pickup.... How come you didn't mic it with the 81?

The vocals sound really nice, except for whatever's making the low end rumble, but a hi-pass should clear that all up. The guitar kinda sounds a little less alive than the vocals... What kind of guitar was it, and how was it recorded?

Hey, thanks for the reply.
What the hell is a high pass filter... I want to get rid of the highs to kill the rumble? I did use a pop filter on the vox, and the guitar is a taylor 410ce.
Your right, the little solo ditty is just the guitars pickup, because we liked the sound on that part.

I don't understand what the high pass is.

i think this is a pretty good song.... the girl has a good voice, she reminds me of the chick from no doubt.

only thing i would wanna work on would be the solo. :D

A high pass filter cuts lows (only higher stuff "passes" through the filter). You could run one cutting everything below 70Hz on this and be fine.

Mic the solo...and maybe play it in time? :D - lol.

Hey, besides the really easy getting rid of plosives part (and the solo), it sounds very nice to me. She's got the Gwen thing going on, eh?

Yeah, what he said about a high-pass. High-pass is basicaly the same thing as "low-cut". I think you'd be much happier if you mic'd the solo, it would sound a lot mroe natural.

I miced the solo and tried to run a high pass.
I took off everything below 125

does this sound better?

Yeah.. shes a big gwen fan. She can sound like jewel if she wants to as well.
Its pretty sick.
