WOW!! I forgot who said it but they were right, I found answers to questions I didn't even have yet!
So here goes the no stupid questions:
I have been dabblin in music for sum time now, had the garage bands came close to getting a contract and have had some basic recording equipment(Taskam 424) stuff like that.
Life happened, and it's been hard to find SEEEERIOUS bands and I am getting set up myself again and want to get off this plateu of non-creativity.
I want to go digital so I can record my own personal music to CD, as well as download instrumentals and flow to them after a few beers or so.
I moved from Hawaii and had to sell most of my stuff so all I really have is my two guitars, electric and acoustic, a cheap keyboard, and a recorder that I think is dead.
Can you guys give me some advice on what to buy from start to finish and about a guesstimate on the price? (taxes are coming)
I want to be able to record music, download music and basically surf the net for==-=
But I want it to run fast and smooth, sound good, and just have fun(making millions), and I have lots of patience..............I have four daughters and a wife!!!!!! I NEED TO MAKE MUSIC TO GET RICH TO BUY MY OWN HOUSE!

welcome to the BBS klever

that's a pretty broad question, have a think about the following:

type and spec of computer
soundcard/interface
recording software
mic preamps (and/or mixer)
microphones
monitoring
cables

I'd do plenty of looking around on each of the above and compile a list of contenders for each category. If you still have questions you can post them in the appropriate forums.

IMO the cheapest way of doing things is to record everything into 'the box' and then do all of your editing and mixing in software. There are ways of recording in the more traditional way with a computer- using outboard gear, mixing down on a proper console etc. it's actually the way i'd like to do things but it's considerably more expensive.

Good luck with it anyway (especially the 'making' money bit :D )

How much money are you looking at spending?
I can make a few suggestions about how to get things done if you tell me that (I am one of those who records on a digital 8-track and transfers the tracks to pc to mix).
Welcome to the board!
