Man, this absolutely rocks telecasterrok! Anything which sounds as good as this on my tiny cheapo pc speakers is a winner in my book! :D

Seriously, I love the "live" feel of the track. The performances and mix are right on! Well, well done.:)

Thanks cjacek! It was a lot of fun to record! Just a single mic on the drums, and lots of bleed in the mics. I'm uploading another right now.

This was an eye opener for me: I've wrestled with digital recordings, but I'm never happy. Mixing this was fun!

Here's another one from the same night: http://www.zshare.net/audio/5345535827568545/

*note* you might want to download the song and then listen... I think that their media player uses compression

Absolutely wonderful!!

Love it. You did a great job with this...further testament to the power of the mother of all portastudios. Great performance and well captured.:D

Thanks Heatmiser! I always thought that you had to have really expensive equipment to get rich bloomy sounds... but I'm really happy with the sounds from my 388.

For the price of one plugin you can have an entire analog music system... wow!

Thanks Zorf! I mixed down to this ART computer interface at 96k...

and then converted directly to mp3 from 96k?

Which software did you use?

Also, it sounds like you recorded live. How many mics did you use?

I record drums with one mic a lot, but i think having an additional kick mic might have helped a bit on the first tune.
Good job.

Hey Zorf -
I used reaper to convert the song to mp3, using the lame mp3 encoder.

Everything was tracked live, no overdubs... one or two takes max. I used 5 mics:
1 at2020 for drums
1 sdc oktava for acoustic
1 at2020 for vocals/harp
1 shure sm57 for e. guitar
1 shure sm57 for lap steel
+ a DI for the bass

I agree with the kick drum mic suggestion...

WOW! I have to say, I am BEYOND impressed... but that may have to do with the fact that I'm a total "newb" when it comes to analog recording, but it's so good to hear the kind of results you can get! I only hope I can come close to something as amazing sounding as these two songs with my TASCAM 246... time will tell!

Once again, great sound, great songs, I want to hear more! Keep it up!

Great job, very enjoyable listen! It definitely has that Ryan Adams vibe completely. If there's one weakness, I would say that it may be a little too close. It's not that you don't have your own thing going, but it's really awfully close to RA, that's all.

I really enjoy the mixes ... how the drums are panned left. It really gives that sound of everyone playing together (imagine that!).

Was the living room treated in any kind of way? Did you use any baffles of any kind?
