first soundcard

hi ppl

i'm now deciding to buy which soundcard........
but i have no idea for what should i get........
my pc is P4 1.6 ......well.......just not too sure which soundcard should i buy..............i will have a mixer with me and different applicatoin like protool.... for recording my voice and instructment at home

please help
 
unless you bought your computer specifically without a soundcard, you have one, or it's on the mainboard..

if you have onboard sound or something, just use that...technology is changing so that it isn't always necessary to have the latest greatest soundcard under $200.
 
If you have a mixer, then you can get by with a card that does not have preamps. Alot of people of this forum recommend the Delta cards, the 44 or 66, they are not too expensive. You might also look at the Aardvark LX6, around $379. Any of these would do a great job for you.

I would highly recommend the Echo Mia - 24/96, balanced ins and outs for low noise, and an onboard DSP mixer to reduce the need for an external mixer. $200 at Musicians Friend/Guitar Center.
