Alright,

here is the first one then!
It's recorded with an SM57 to a Mindprint DI-Port optical to EWX 24/96 into Sonar.
I did some editing in Sonar, but nothing really special. Mainly delay and reverb. Tell me what you think about it!!

I would like some critique on the mixing, because it's my first time recording (that I twist the knobs that is)... Thanks!!

I borrowed the drum track from someone on another forum...

The song:

The song is called Session 1 (it's the only one on the page, so..)

BluesJr,

Great guitar work!

But, it's way too loud in the mix and it is overtaking everything else.

I can't hear any bass guitar. Was there a bass part in this?

Bring the fuzz guitars down at least 4 to 6 db down and things will be much more tolerable and listen-able.

The drum track as well is a bit harsh in the top end as is the upper mids in the lead guitar.

What are you monitoring this on? Headphones?

Anyway, nice first effort!

Cheers! :)

Thank you!!

Thanks alot for the critique.
Ghost, there is no bassline in the song indeed... I have midi equipment here, but I haven't managed to create a useful bassguitar sound yet, so hopefully i'll get it up and running for the next project.
I did mix most of it with headphones yes (great guess ;-)).. how stupid could I be.
I edited the song with the things you mentioned.. and I hope it's a bit better now. I still monitor with 'regular' speakers (Bose) so I have a really hard time hearing harshness, but I gave it a try to edit it a bit.
Here's the new version:

The link to the previous version is also still there.

Much better now!:)

The levels are still very minor-ly off by that's just nit-picking at this point.

Perhaps a touch of verb on the lead guitar would put it in a similar space to the drum kit. Not a heavy, big room but, just a small hall setting so that the ends of the guitar notes don't end so abruptly as they do now with just the delay effect.

Great job! :)
