mr. green christmas
Hey there...

I have been out of touch for a while...first the motherboard fried on the desktop, then marital troubles, then...well it's been a crazy summer...:D

All is more or less good now, but I'm stuck with a laptop with the teeny tiny speakers that go along with that, so I may have trouble offering any meaningful insight on mixes (that actually hasn't changed ;)), but I am anxious to hear some tunes from the clinic nonetheless and have especially missed hearing the contributions from a half dozen or so regulars.

Anyway...Soundclick link below to a 4-minute instrumental thing where the drum machine just kinda starts in a jarring way, it is a bit too long and overall awfully mid-rangey sounding, but I like it anyway and I hope you will too :). Any thoughts / advice etc. would be tremendous.

This is great. I always like your stuff heat. I also always say early Beck is an influence. This is no exception. Has a a bit of a grateful dead feel to it as well. This would be so easy to write lyrics to. Mix is fun and punchy. Like the abrupt drum intro. Get's things started off right. I think this is the bees knees.

This is a cool song. Some parts of the song have the Barny Miller theme song to it. That's not a dig, that song had a funk sound.

This song is fucking awesome.

There is nothing else I can add.

Except that I wish you would let me take a wah-pedal clavinet solo on it.

And the bass tone makes me want to buy new shoes, or get in a fistfight.

It's great to have a song in here again and to hear good words from people whose work I respect so much...

Thanks! Yes, I would love to add lyrics to this, but am maxed out with 8 tracks at the moment...I suppose I could bounce or something. I just checked out Directions and really liked it a lot.:)

Thanks man. I like the Barney Miller comparison...always liked that one and kind of wanted to cover it but never did...maybe that crept in here a bit.

Ha! Thanks a ton :D. I can't seem to recall what a clavinet is, but I bet it would work...uh, why wouldn't it? I am addicted to that distorto-bass sound, it just makes any old bass line sound awesomer.;)

Ok, I know the link at the bottom of your posts takes us to the LPC debut (which I intend to purchase soon :o honest!), but didn't you come out with another one this year? If so, I'm guessing that would include lots of tunes from the fairly recent past of the clinic, yes? Lady Policeman, etc.? If so, how can one go about purchasing this disc???

Thanks again!

Great tones and a funky track! The stabby 7th chords on acoustic panned hard left and hard right are so cool! Some really tasteful leads as well. I'm digging it; write some words, fish out a melody and this could chart...

Creep, I hear you on the bass part. So chunky and well played. I resisted the urge to fap though...:o

Thanks so much. I'm glad you liked it! :)

The rhythm guitar on the left is an electric with a bunch of fx which thinned it out and made it more acoustic-like I think.

I'm really glad the bass came through like that as I wanted it to sound nasty even though this was kind of a mellow number overall.

Clavinet - think The Band, Stevie Wonder, The Wailers - Froggy sounding way cool esp with Wah. & it would soound unreal on this!
You MUST get the new LPC album - it's SUPERB - I play it every second night (I have to force myself to play other things other nights to keep some perspective).
THIS SONG - is FUN KEY.
Most enjoyable - good mix - the rhythm guitars work a treat.
A vocal would be interesting but I'd keep it to a minimum - maybe one verse & chorus so that the point of the exercise isn't lost.
K OOOOOHL.

Very refreshing to hear a I IV progression that holds your interest. I was half way through this and had to pick up my guitar.

I guess that's what good music is all about.

Not crazy about the distorted bass, but that's just me.

I would love to hear an acoustic bass on this, but I would also love to win the lottery. I don't think either one is going to happen.

I'll be back to listen to this again. Thanks for posting it.

Ok, I think I know the clavinet sound now...might have to google it to be sure. I do have an old Lowrey organ here that hasn't worked for years. We have a repair guy coming in a couple weeks to try to revive it. I can get some pretty whacked sounds out of that particularly when run through pedals.

Thanks for listening and I'm very glad you enjoyed it.:):)

Yes, I didn't exactly go overboard with chord changes here, did I?

I'm working on one now with three () chords, and have been known to go with just one. I am somewhat melodically challenged :o

While I hear you on the bass...that sound was kind of the starting point for the whole thing so it's gonna have to stay. My next one has a relatively normal bass guitar sound :).

Thanks for taking the time to check it out!

Great Jam, heat!
Adore that growling bass....
Yeah, a nice heavy sounding lead here and there. This rocks!

Joey :):):):)

Thanks a bunch Joey! :D

This is really encouraging feedback so far... :)

So, I guess I'm more or less ok with this one (other than lacking vocals)? No big mix issues?

I've been meaning to listen to this one for a couple of days now and just now getting around to it. Too bad I waited.... this is great.
I hear the Dead influence and Barney Miller. Whatta combo!!!! Love it.

Awesome...thanks Chili!
