Not only is this the first song i recorded through my new mbox (all things mic'd with a MXL V63M), but this is the first song i ever wrote. I spent about 2 hours recording this and 45 minutes mixing it.

Ive only been singing for 2 months, and i was blasted when i did the vocals, im sure ill redo them.
I also noticed there are two timing errors in the song that throws off the drums for a couple counts, but thats fixable within the boundaries of my abilities. although, what i dont know anything about is mixing,
so heres what i did:
Joe Meek EQ plugin for guitar
moogerfooger analog delay plugin for vocals and drums
joe meek compressor for bass and vocals
very little automation

any suggestions and/or comments would be welcome

Yeah sounds good for a first attempt. The song is alright, but I like the vocals. Reminds me of Dave Grohls style of singing.
You used a delay on the vox? what were the settings?
Drums could be more present as they kinda blend into the song too much.
Keep it up dude.

thanks man, you suprised me by saying you liked the vocals. lol, i usually have more of a whisper in my voice, but for some reason, gin & tonics knock that right out of the picture.
anyway, yea i used the moogerfooger analog delay with a very short delay and i only mixed about 10% of it into the track so its very minute. I agree with the drums, they blend but maybe a lil too much.
thanks for listening!

Yeah man, I think it's great for a first anything. The vocals really suit the song, kind of remind me of Donavon (I'm dating myself). A few timing issues, like you said and it's not tight throughout, timing-wise, . But the looseless of it doesn't take away from the vibe. If anything, it might add to it. I like it.

thanks for the comments. the lack of "tight"ness comes from recording the song originally with the intent that it was just two guitars and vocals, we did bass and drums last, and thats a big no-no, but im lazy. it should be the other way around :)

Sometimes those afterthoughts like adding bass and drums is the thing that gives a song the finishing touches. In this case it definately worked. Not at all bad for a first try, keep at it, I think you'll get the hang real fast.

i love it.

its got that laid back jack johnson feel. the vocals fit the song perfectly. i like ur vioce alot.

record some more !!

The thing is, that if you're wanting to write music in a studio, and you've got your guitar parts, it's good to have em down, then find a drum beat/bass to fit. Thus, the track becomes your demo, which you refer to when re-recording your new track, with a whole lot more time. I'm always brainstorming, so that how i write new music.

your right, after thinking about it i didnt write the bass or drum parts (or even brainstorm) until i had the acoustic and vocals recorded. I should have everything laid out before i record so it fits together a little bit easier.

thanks everyone for your input so far!
