Yep,
just completed my first song in my home studio...

did the track in Reason and the vocals in Apple's $40 program Garageband...

using my sound booth, an 700mhz ema, a shure beta 57a microphone, and an Art OPL Tube MP preamp....

the style of this song is a "Queensbrigde/Mobb Deepish" style song...
but I'll be posting plenty of songs in other styles as soon as I mix em down...

peep it....
Guns, Money, & Birds by one of my artist, GATES

This is seriously good for a first job in your home studio. Not my genre I'm afraid so not qualified to comment on the song.

Sound's great man. I can definately see the mobb influence (who i think is lacking the passion they used to have). I like the minimal beat, to many people are trying to fit to much in the same song and detracting from the lyrics. Good mic presence, etc.

The sound quality is very good. I found the it a bit predictable at times. Like, I knew when the vocals were going to start. I also knew what the corresponding 2nd line would be after hearing the first... like word for word sometimes.

I like the minimal beat too. You're on the right track, like good food- simple and cool will make you rich.

My only critique is that if you had a bit more hi-fi sounding vocal, you wouldn't know it was a home studio. Just a touch clearer and more present. My advice would be to save up for a good pre and a condenser and then tell us when you're on the radio. :)

other than that, you're ahead of the game. good luck!

Yeah, overall really good. It does get a little too repetitive and predictable. The beat is good but I didn't like the way the drums sounded, but I'm too much of a live drum freak. I always go back to Digable Planets when I want to understand what drums should sound like. I thought the way the voice was recorded sounded good to me, the quality gives it an edgier & urban feel.

Thanks all...
actually I've been asked to submit some tracks to an upcoming artists who's buzzing in NYC and just landed a deal....

Wish me luck....
i'll let you know how it turns out...
