First Setup

I am thinking of getting together some gear for recording small bands. My budget is around £1500 or roughly $2000. To be honest i dont really know where to start. I have been pointed in the direction of the following gear:

Motu 828MKII
Shure SM 57
AKG D112
+ PC or Mac still undecided

Would i need a desk to give me more than 2 preamped mic channels on the motu?

Sorry if these are silly questions, but as i said i am new to this scene!
