Well after 5 years of not being around I thought I'd post and say hello again.. I kind of got out of recording and just paying someone to do it then moved from Nashville back to Michigan about 2 years ago. Now in the house I have decided to return to recording in a semi commercial setup in my basement.

However now I feel like a noob again, don't remember much and I'm pulling my hair out. Not sure if many if any at all will remember me but I had a Layla back in the day then a PARIS rig and a studio on Music Row in Nashville. I learned a lot on here and hope I contributed a bit with advice but now things have come full circle and I'm a noobie again ;-)..

For the time being while recording small projects I've gone with a Digi002 control surface and some pre's. I had sold all my good equipment and I"m starting over so I have Jack and Shi$ for gear.

Anyway just saying a friendly hello and thanks for still being here! Boy digital recording has come a long friggin way since the first Layla ;-) Well off to my lair to mess with some mixes I downloaded from the mix contests. I figure that will get me back into where I was quicker than trying to screw up a bunch of recordings and screw up the mixes :D Kinda like baking a cake but someone else did all the mixing all I've gotta do is turn on the oven and watch it!

So once again HELLO! and to all the people that don't know me my names Cory ;)

Hi! Welcome back!

It has changed a lot in five years when I first started messing with it. Great hardware is cheap, it's almost impossible to choke a computer, and mshilarious makes some of the best SDC condensors anywhere.

Welcome Back! good to see you've come back to your senses :D

it's the year 2006 we have automobiles and this wonderful thing called the internet, man, you'vemissed alot!

Yeah I see it's time to retire the homing pigeons :(

I had my rig running for the first time the other night and I remember when a Ren compressor plug in would dog your computer down. Lol lastnight I had like 30 plug ins running with hardly any effect to the computer.. Gotta love that..

I figure I'll give it 6 months and if the projects start rolling in I'll make the jump to PT HD1/control 24 surface etc. Right now the 002 seems like a great option. Far nicer than anything top of the line back then, well except PARIS. (Good call canceling that product Ensoniq) Anyway the nice thing is in my area it seems there are studios charging 4x what I could charge in Nashville and putting out product with 100k studios I could have almost done back then with Layla.. So with a little refresher I should be doing ok up here.

In the last 5 years, a lot of things changed. Like Mindset Entertainment, the indie label has begun their takeover ;)

Honestly, I'll suggest you getting your hands on the HD system instead of 'starting' back up with the 002 system. Why spend the grand on something that in 6 months, you'll be upgrading anyways. Regardless of how you look at it, for one, you'll still be using pro tools, doing things kind of the same but better on a full fledge HD system vs a small 002 setup. I don't know how to word it... You'll have to re-learn everything either way, why don't you re-learn it on the bigger things instead of the smaller things... Hope you understand..

Hey Cory! Welcome back to the land of the frustrated and broke. :D

Oh...and since you're kinda the new guy again.....there's a rule that was passed by the boards legislation...........new guy buys the beer.

:D

Welcome back sir! Long time no see for sure.

Question, In the quest of trying to reacquire gear that is near and dear to my heart I found out one of my favorite Pre amps was discontinued the Joe Meek VC1Q. Is this new TwinQ anything like my old green friend? Or am I going to have to find some used booger someplace? I loved the way that pre sounded with my voice and my Neumann. I'm hoping I can recreate that ;-)

I hear what your saying about just going straight for the HD system however when your married it takes a little more finesse than it used to when it comes to dropping the dime. If I can pick up a few projects and show her there is some money to be made I'll get it. If I can't make any money it would not be a good thing to drop that kind of money on something only to sell it for a huge loss. At least with this the loss is minimal ;)

Lol if I can do it, you can do it :D I also had to convince my spouse that gear is neccessary to our future lol. It was VERY hard... but possible  I can now put my kids in college once I grab the DM2000 for $25K :D :D
