AAARGHH! I downloaded it and managed to get the card reader plugged in and recognised. then i imported all the tracks to the pc. BLOODY 50 OF THEM! The program told me it was having trouble copin with so many so it wasnt happening for me at all.
so how DO i know what ones i want and what ones i want to bin then folks?
Jeeez,,,,,i am NEVER gonna get this to work!

It may be something as simple as upgrading your RAM. If you're operating on the minimum requirements for RAM, it's not going to ba able to handle that many tracks. I have heard of people doing a lot more than 50 tracks with n-Track, but I'm sure they had the RAM to handle it. Course I could be all wrong too!

N TRACKS etc

Hi guys,,,
my pc is 20 gb HD,,,,256mb,,,and 850mhz processor.
is there something i should have downloaded from the Fostex site? I seem to recall mention of something on another post.
i have NEVER used anything like this before, and i dont know how to know what i want to keep and what is crap.
I am a complete novice at this, so dont be afraid to talk s-i-m-p-l-e to me ok?
Heheheh!

Are you using wavmanager (available free on the fostex site) to transfer the tracks.
I think there is definitely something wrong besides the amount of RAM. 256 should be enough.
Do you mean that you don't know what tracks you want to keep? Or something else?

Wait a minute. I just thought of something. You said you downloaded the N-track demo. If you only have the demo, it has limitations. This could be your problem.

!

Ahaaa,,Wavemanager! Thats the fellow in question mate!
Just go to Fostex and download it yeah? Then what do i do?
Yes,,i just dont have a clue what to do really. Im a big fool!

That's ok. We all have to start somewhere. Do a search on this forum for wavmanager. There have been several threads on it where someone posted the exact link. If not just look around in the "support" part of the fostex site. Doing a search for wavmanager in this forum will also bring up a lot of info on how to transfer tracks to pc.

N TRACKS etc

EXCELLENT! Thanks a lot Gospel(and bdBuck) ishall go and have a wee look now. i acant deny that im always terrified of trying these things, cos im not a"techy"kinda player y;know?
i just want to get it done and make it sound decent.
Is N-Tracks what u guys use? Im none the wiser what any of these things are like
Cheers fellas!

I use n-track. I really couldn't give you any input on any other multi-tracking software because N-track is the only one I've used. The others are out of my price range. Besides, from what I hear from other people, n-track is better than some software that costs $100s more.

N TRACKS etc

ta Gospel.
im off to the Fostex site to look for this WavManager thingy then!
Cheers

N TRACKS etc

hm,,,now i have the WaV MANAGER and the Card reader hooked up, but it copies track one then says"copy failed"
on track 2 every time. im stumped.
anyone?

Not sure, but 50 wav files on the card sounds like the old virtual track thing where the Mr-8 saves all takes if you don't hit 'undo/redo'. I've had the same problem where I copy the contents of the card over, and then have to weed through the tracks to see which are legit.

(Goes back to the pumped up version of wav manager that some of us were talking about writing - sounds like the need is still there...)

(...and MonsterPop - I love how the Scottish accent comes through in your posts. I keep picturing the guys from Trainspotting!)

waaaghhh!

Naw,,,not those edinburgh junkie bastards,,,pleaaase,,,,naw !
Aye,,i suppose it does come through,,in a GLASGOW accent i might add! heheheh!
so im stuck then? Aaah chriiiiiist !
i knew i wouldnt be able toget it together,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

What version OS is on your MR8? Mine did that until I upgraded to v1.03.

bd

Oh yeah, re-boot your computer right before you try to transfer, I also had another similar problem that was fixed by re-booting.

N TRACKS etc

Er,,,,i have no idea what that means im afraid mate.
Am i supposed to have the MR8 itself hooked up to the pc?
i thought i could judt use the acrd reader and card, with the wav manager thingy,,,then get it into N-Tracks.
Am i bein really stupid?

You can copy tracks directly off the card with a reader.

One thing to help sort through the 50 tracks is to look at the size of the wav files. If you had many cases of starting to record a track, f***ing up, rewinding, and trying again, then many of those wavs on the card will be noticably shorter than the few that you really want. (Of course if you did a lot of punching in...)

It's a pain in the arse, but simply double clicking on each one in Windows and listening to it will tell you which ones you want to keep. Then just bring those into n-Track and you should be fine. Stick with it, as it definitely does work - I've got n-Track on my notebook and am still amazed at how great it sounds.

The version that buck is talking about is on the screen when you turn the MR-8 on and it boots up. Just watch when you turn it on and it will say V 1.0x. If it doesn't say at least 1.03 then you need to update. Which is also done on the fostex site. Until I updated to 1.03 I could not transfer tracks.
On the card reader thing, it is my understanding if you have Windows 98 you have to have a card reader. On other OSs (Windows 2000, XP, etc.) you just hook straight from the MR-8 to the PC via USB cable.
Don't give up yet, you are getting close.
