Well, I have at least managed to finish my first track on the VF80. Its a guitar instrumental. nothing fancy just a nice simple rhythm. Had difficulty with mastering as the L and R pan on the acoustic track didnt seem to work on mastering and they just fell into the middle (strange - has anyone else experienced this?).

Anyway, any criticisms will be welcome.

Pretty nice tune, I like the guitar work... The bass sounds good..
The drums are a bit too loud and could be set farther back in the mix, and maybe compressed a bit.... they dont really seem to go with the rest of the instruments, maybe a lighter drum set/beat?...

Nice job though...

The time to do the pan L/R is during the bounce down to 7/8. Then, when the master is done from there you should be all set. If you have problems, post again...

Well thats what I thought and when I bounced to 7/8 the panning was there and listening back on the track (via 7/8) it was still there but I lost it when I mastered(?)

If you mastered directly from the 7/8 bounce-down, and it was panned hard L/R on those tracks, I don't believe the mastering could have undone the stereo mix. I'm not sure how that's possible.

VF80 int master

spoke to Fostex tech support (Matt @ 800-936-7839)

He states that if you monitor your internal master after completed, make sure you have track 1 panned left and track 2 panned right (omission in manual).

He states that if you burn this internal master to CD, or send master to an external deck, the pan parmeters and effects will be correct.

Have you also burned to CD and listened or sent recording to external master deck?

Thanks for your help on this one.
