Hey all I recorded my first classical guitarist today. He performed a Venezuela Waltz, and is a very skilled player! I was quite happy with the recording, and we decided to add a lush reverb and even a midi 'applause' to capture the sense of live performance in a small venue; this mightn't be to everyones taste but I'm happy with the guitar sound.n I'd be obliged if you'd check it out:

Thanks!

You certainly created the sound of a very large venue. And, everything is nice and clear. The sound of the guitar is very nice. Just the way a classical guitar should sound. My personal preference would be to make the instrument feel a bit "less distant". A bit closer. I'd think that would be just a minor tweak in the reverb. But, that's just personal taste. If you were trying to make it sound like someone listening from row 10, you've done a great job. I guess I'd just rather be on the front row. ;) The applause sounds very artificial.

Yeah the applause was an after-thought. Dry classical guitar is fine, but wet sounds much better; the hardest part is getting the right amount of reverb.

The applause ends too abrubtly.

I am not worthy really of criticizing the performance, and the recording sounds gorgeous to my ears.

Same here. But it matches the atmosphere of the applause so it fits.

Very nice. Captures the personality of the piece and guitarist. The verb sounds rich. I'd reduce the compression... sounds like maybe it's a split band comp... highs sound good but the lower mids are getting a little squashed.

I like the applause, but I'd fade in and out quicker so it doesn't sound so artificial.

Thanks Timothy! Your word is gospel on all things classical, thanks for the feedback!

I like it.....sounds well played and recorded. Nice job man....

Nice reverb - I'm a reverb junkie  What kind of reverb did you choose for this one?
The audience sounds too "tinny" if that makes any sense. I think it's a cool effect though but needs some bottom end.

LOL it's about the playing and recording I know....

I liked the overall sound, but I would look into Tim's recommendations as he is the classical expert not me for sure.... :)

Lovely playing, nice sound, nice recording.

Try as I might, though, I can't find a waltz in there.....little help anyone? It's driving me nuts. Im finding it difficult to count time to this piece.

Nice playing.

Nice reverb too, what did you use? Sounds very realistic.

If you're still wanting to put an applause effect in there, I'd try searching for a better sample. Maybe even something binaural. Here's a good place to start:

Some free wave files:

Try searching for 'applause'

I too like it. I also want to know what verb you used exactly?

Good Job!

Nicely done.....good recording! I'm with the crowd on the applause thing though.....a few tweaks though and it will fit right in....good job!!!!

Oh thanks everyone! For those wondering about the verb..its the Reverb A plug-in that comes with Cubase SE 3. Its set to medium, with the room size taken down a little. I stereo mic'd thew guitar though, so I can't guarantee I applied the same reverb to each track. Thanks for your comments, I might re-do the applause or leave it out altogether. Thansk for all the positive feedback guys, this is probably the best thing I've recorded.
