Got some binaural mics for my birthday, and this is one (of many) binaural recordings I've made so far.

Listen on some decent headphones and tell me what you think.

I'll post some more if you want, I've got some that are better.

That helicopter is a neat effect - made mw look up for a sec.....

Ok - why am I only getting my right headphone working on this?????
Nope - the left is on it's just super low in comparison. The tone/recording is excellent on the one side though. Can you check this and let me know? Maybe I'm losing my hearing

:) :D :) :D

Thanks, that helicopter flew over while I was messing around on my guitar

I had the microphones in my ears. So while playing my right ear is closer to the soundhole which is why it sounds mostly to the right side. ;)

A little hissy but sounds pretty good. Is that thru a preamp or straight to the sound card? How's it sound for singing and playing? I might be interested in playing around with something like this.

Straight into a SoundBlaster line-in. Still need a Y cable so I can run it through my DMP3 into the 2496.

If you're interested, these are the ones I got. I just got the cheapest they had:

Microphones:

Into the battery module:

Then into the SoundBlaster.

Edit: They sell the cables themselves, why didn't I think of that before:

That helicopter is awesome. :)

Sounds pretty good, but I'm not getting why anyone would need or want binaural mics for music recording.

You can make some cool background effects for songs if that's what you're into.

When my friend comes over it sounds better to record with the binural mics instead of just 2 mics recording in stereo.

They work great for a small, live recordings. When listened on headphones it sounds like you're really in the room.

I don't plan on using them for any serious recordings though. Mixing with a bunch of binaural tracks would probably be impossible.

The mics are in your ears instead of headphones? So the position of your head determines where things appear in the stereo field..?

yeah, so the recordings come out exactly as his ears would hear it. cool shit.

Yup.

Surprisingly, they also worked not being in my ears. I taped them to the side of my guitar amp and they seem to work just as good.

But this one recording was done with them in my ears.

I have a couple of binaural LPs. Both Lou Reed - the Bells & Take No Prisoners.
Binaural is PERFECT for recording a live event & played back with good h/phones the image is fabulous.
It doesn't translate to speakers & I've not been able to work out how Lou recorded a studion album that way - I mean I know the physical set up with dummy head etc but was the mix played back through sep speakers for each instrument set up in a room to represent the position of players & this then recorded through the head?
Danny, you'd get a better image for us to listen to you by having someone sit with the mic/head in the best possible position to hear you & record that. You'll have to book the chopper though.
I imagine recording the on stage mix & bedlam of a band from one of the members perspectives (wearing the mic/head) would be interesting too - I tried to get that effect with a mix I did last year.
Please put up some more.

Thanks RayC. I'm gonna post some more and maybe even try doing a small mix with binaural tracks just for fun. Or if I can get a few people over maybe we can do a good live binaural recording.

Next time I'll use a dummy head or something so everything won't be to the right.
