Hey all- i finally was able to borrow an adat and a mixer. Ive been using a br-8 up to this point so it was quite a change. Im just going straight into the board without any outboard stuff. Let me know what you think. I've just started to work on my singing so let me know how that is too if you all dont mind! Thanks

www.nowhereradio.com/ardrossan then click on discography then random stuff. Check out the ardrossan demo if you all would like to also.

Listening:

Core sound is nice and fairly full... Feels very confined... Panning could be more creative... Almost sounds mono (might be).

Low end building up on guitar a bit and distorting... Heard worse, but something to watch out for...

Overall (except for the low end distortion) you've got the "plain and non-irritating" thing down. That's a good start. A little EQ'ing and panning... Maybe a whisker of plate verb...

How 'bout some more?

Hey thanks for the reply. I did only record the stuff in mono cause i only have one mic stand and i wasnt sure where to put the mics. I only have a 57 and a AKG C 4000B condenser. I'm having trouble getting the condensor not to sound muddy. Ive tried putting it from the 12th fret all the way to the fifth fret, but it doesnt seem to help all that much.

Where would you suggest putting the 57 and the AKG if i were to use both of those to record with to make it stereo? Thanks for the reply.

Rough call on that - I'd "start" by putting the condenser over the guitarist's left shoulder (assiming he's right-handed) and pointed toward the neck joint so the MIC is hearing what HE is hearing. Maybe put the 57 near the lower body and angle it toward the hole. Tweak as necessary.

Again, that's just a starting point. It may sound horrible. You may love it. Every instrument is different, and every room reacts differently to it.

If you're the player, it would sure help if someone could play it while you listen around it for a nice spot...
