So I recorded this song like 2 years ago back when I was getting into home recording. Well now I'm getting back into it but I'd like to hear peoples opinions on the quality of it.
Now the drums were made with FruityLoops. I used a pair of headphones as a mic to record my Yamaha plugged into my 10watt Yamaha amp. Then I edited it with Acid 4.0. :o

so rip it up!

Edit: I forgot to post the link

I quite like the guitar sound except for the twiddly semi shred bits.
H/phones as mic - sounds like something Metallica do.

Headphones for a mic - sounds amazingly good! 100% better than direct for sure. I was a little nervous when I read your post but I was/am pleasantly surprised with the quality. The lead around 2:00 could come up a little to match the rest of the mix. The drums are nice......
Overall a jammin' tune - I'm gonna try that mic'ing technique....

:) :D :) :D

I used the earphones initially because I was too cheap to buy a good mic but it really turned out better than I expected and so I used the same earphones and method for a few other songs.
I'm meaning to add bass however I don't own a bass but I'm thinking of just recording my guitar as a bass.

Good luck on the guit as bass thing. If you decide to go for a bass $200 Ibanez with good strings sound amazingly good.

I will have to listen later;)

One of the guitars sounds way too upfront in the mix. The other one sounds too distant. Drums sound nice.

I think the actual sound you got in the recording is good though, especially considering what you used.

danny.guitar, I think it sounds that way because the lead guitar is played mostly on the right speaker and the rhythm guitar is played on the left and also in the middle. I wanted to have two different guitars play different things but I thought having each one on a separate left and right channel would make it sound confusing. Therefore, I just made the rhythm peek into the right channel along with the lead.
Anyone have suggestions on how I could mix it better?

I think the lo fi thing works pretty well in this case.
