Hey all,

So all I have attempted thus far is acoustic guitar and some vocals with my new setup. Well I broke out the electric tonight and miced the amp with a Sure 57 to see what kind of sound I could track.

**Keep in mind**

I am no guitarist and this is amateur playing at best. Yes, they are fake drums to keep the beat. I have the mic pointed straight at the cabinet at about a 75 degree angle (90 degree would be straight at it, so its angled slightly). I want to get some feedback on the "sound" of the tracked guitar to see if I can improve on mic positioning, effects, and an overall better sound for my electric guitar. This is all distortion here, kind of heavy; I figure I would start with the ole power chord sound first since it's easiest to play ;)

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Listen here please

Sounds real good. I actually wouldnt have known the drums were fake, a touch more verb on them and they could pass for real. The guitar could have been a lil fuller sounding but it was just fine.

Thanks for the listen Davidk ;)

Yea, its my Alesis SR-16 and I will try some more reverb on future recordings, thanks for the tip. When you say fuller guitar what does that mean? More volume? Is that an EQ setting? other?

Thanks again ~

Richer, more robust, wider? Perhaps eq could do it, I cant put my finger on it. That sounds pretty good for an SR16, I should play around with mine more.

Yea, I hear that too, just trying to figure out how to get it wider or more robust ;)

Lets ask the guitar freaks: Gorty? Metal? Dog? hehe how do I get my elec sounding better?

Thanks again

the guitar sounds pretty good. but you should double track it and pan hard left/right to get a more full sound.

Actually I did that =(

Only because everytime I see Gorty post on guitar sound he gives that advice hehe. However, the way I did it was after it was recorded, I simply made a copy of the track and panned one hard left and the other hard right. I didnt actually phisically record 2 takes, just duplicated the track. Is that the correct way?

Thanks,
