Hi i'm new here, name is glenn..

Posting my first song and videoclip, sadly i have no camcorder so i had to
improvise with gifs. genre i like is mostly metal but i have a broad range of
music taste.

One part is techno music and the other is metal, name Freeman!

Hope you like it :)

The music was pretty good, although it got a little repetitive. The first three minutes all kind of sounded like an intro that wasn't going anywhere. It got better during the "heavy metal" part after that.

During the heavy metal part, your cymbals sounded far too compressed, though part of that was probably YouTube's fault.

The video was pretty disjointed. I think you need more of a unifying theme in your animated gifs. Pick one concept and stick with it instead of bouncing around between all your interests.

Thanks Steve for listening,

I forgot to mention that it is an experimental song, so thing's are not quiet
focused properly..

The cymbals are too compressed, i wanted to change that but was too
overly happy with the piece so i forgot, will keep in mind for the future :)

I will try to give future songs more direction.

Yeah there are some timing issues with the synth and srums around the minute mark imo..

cymbals sound shocking on youtube...try a site like dropbox etc where you can host at full 320kbps...helps people listen to your mix better and leaves the youtubes, soundclicks, & reverbnations of the world for your fans and the unwashed masses :)

as for the tune I didnt like the metal stuff as much...but probably because I was enjoying the electronic part so much...I loved the sounds alongside "live" drums...it had a real "add N to (x)" feel about it....I think if the metal could be more melodic or toned down, I really think you have a great sound..and the mix wasnt half bad either

video was interesting if a little distracting..again best left for your fans etc...

Id offer one piece of advice though..Id post here mainly to get comments on your mix, how its mixed, how individual instruments sound...apart from glaring errors remember its your vision you are trying to put forward, and don't alter it because someone may not like the genre, direction, or approach...that will always happen with music..just take those comments on board if it fits in with your thoughts or its a project open to ideas

all in all great job...and for a first try at a whole song pretty damned good man! :)

Hey thanks man for listening,

I realize that i can not please all the masses at the time but i take comments
very seriously, if it fits with my thoughts i'll use it and experiment with it.
It's something i learned on many forums and it's good that you tell about it.

I'm very happy with this first serious piece of music, i have to say that the
drums are chosen beats in addictive drums, i'm too lazy at the moment to
make my own parts and i am not that experienced.

Your thoughts about the cymbals and timing issues are right my friend, your
tip about hosting on dropbox is a good one, will look into that.

Thoughts about the metal part, i myself liked the guitars but i used to much
distortion on it, your'e right about the guitars beiing more melodic or toned
down, i'm always searching to get a better sound.

Thanks for the helpfull tips :)

glenn

heh Glenn..a tip about distorted guitars, if you are doubling them up or hard panning them turn the distortion gain down around 20-30%...you'll lose none of the heavy sound but leave it all a bit clearer

and note Im better at giving advice than following it lol :)

Hey color line, this is a great first song. It sounds like you worked pretty hard on the various parts. I like the way you put them all together for the final mix. If I were to make any changes it would be to bring the volume of the guitars up a bit in the metal section but that is just my preference...

Good one! :D:):D:)

Yep, ppost the music without the vid distraction (for you & me) somewhere taht does better streaming - the ones suggested plus LightningMP3, Soundclick, Box etc.
The drums sound like you describe - lazily selected.
The suggestion re recording/mixing distorted gits is spot on!
The song - um, too busy for me& I can't really offer to much on sound as it's a UTub vid & that washes out cymbals, bottom end, texture etc.
Good start though.
If you look at the blurb I did with my latest offering (a vid) it'll give you some recently learnt (for me - old & stupid but learning as I am) tips about getting the better sound quality for your vid.

I take all the usefull tips happily from you guy's, the funny thing is i always
wanted to experiment with doubling guitartracks but i manage to stick to
long with the same thing over and over again, time for me to do something
about that, if it works well i will use it.. stay tuned!!!

Oh yeah i forgot to mention that i used a very cheap guitar on this recording
the other guitar i just bought is a ltd viper, this guitar sound's amazing
for the price and the 2 panned guitartracks have a very wide sound.
I also forgot the link to my soundclick, will post it at the bottom :)

Your're right somebody else mentioned it too in the past, the guitars sound good on all of my systems but if
i give it a go on small pc speakers or cell phone with earphones it sound very different, thanks for the tip.
And thanks for the compliment too.

Dig the drum playing, but in the "electronica" part of the song, it sounds too "small roomish". Second time I've made that comment tonight and I believe the other was on someone's vocal tracking room or use of small-room reverb algo/setting. The drums don't match the dominant digital synth/sample track. Drums sound small room echo, short verb or delay maybe, but "small room" sound which doesn't match the strong digital flavor of what the song is jamming around. More deep reverb and lower freqs on the drums and the two should match much better. Just my opinion. Dig the drumming, btw.

Thanks for listening seeeeker of rooock hahaha, i agree about the drums
every time i use that preset there's something not right, for me they sound
dry with a little reverb, time maybe to do something with it ;)
