IEEE 1394

protocol for transferring digital data

A competing design with USB but has some features that can (can not necessarily will) make it more attractive in managing streaming data

IEEE 1394a (2000) [firewire] and USB 2.x have virtually identical data transfer rates but administrative overhead in firewire seems to be conductive to its use with dynamic and streaming data
