I'm sure this question has been asked a million times but, what are some of the pros and cons of firewire interfaces vs. pci cards. I originally decided on the aark24 but then I though what if I get a lap top, then I can't use an aark24. Has anyone had any problem with the firewire say for instance, using 6 ins and 6 outs simulataneously and the comp not having the speed?

Connect a FW interface to a laptop with no additional cards needed

A unit like the Firepod has advantages like
1. Portability. Plug it into your pc, then take it away with your laptop for on location recording.
2. 8 mic pres with phantom power , Hi Z etc. removing the need for a mixer
3. A/D Converters outside of the PC

multiple inputs simultaneously

Has anyone ever had problems running 6 ins and 6 outs simulataneously with a firewire card on a laptop?

Firewire throughput is 400Mb/s.
1 track of 24/96 audio requires around 2.2Mb/s. 12 tracks of the same would need around 26Mb/s - well within the capabilities of most laptops as long as you provide enough buffers
