Firewire or USB?

I have been using a Roland UA-25EX USB interface for some time and am now considering changing to a Firewire interface.

As my laptop only has a 4-pin firewire port, will it be possible to connect with a 6 to 4 adaptor or will this result in a loss of speed and an increase in latency?

Must I buy a laptop with a 6-pin firewire port? Thanks in advance for advice.
 
You only need a 4-to-6pin cable or adapter.
The extra 2 pins only carry DC power, no audio data.

(Been using one from my laptop to my Motu828mkII for years)
