Just Announced Today...

Alesis Ships MultiMix FireWire Series Mixers

October 6, 2005

Alesis' line of MultiMix mixers featuring FireWire data connectivity is now shipping. Available in 8-, 12-, and 16-channel configurations, these compact tabletop mixers feature next-generation DICE II FireWire technology, low noise analog electronics, and one hundred 28-bit digital effects.

The DICE II FireWire technology incorporated into the MultiMix FireWire Series provides for the transfer of multiple audio data streams from the mixer to one's computer (PC/Windows or Mac OSX) using a standard IEEE-1394 FireWire interface. These mixers provide 24-bit stereo simultaneous input/output via the mixer's FireWire connection to a wide range of computer-based audio production applications.

All three models feature high-gain mic/line preamps, 48V phantom power, auxiliary sends/returns, and an onboard effects engine encompassing one hundred 28-bit preset effects, including reverbs, delays, chorus, and flanging. Each channel provides 3-band EQ with high/low shelving and mid band pass/reject.

The MultiMix 8- and 12-channel mixers provide four high-gain mic/line (XLR and quarter-inch balanced) inputs with phantom power, two stereo balanced quarter-inch line inputs, an Aux send that can send to either onboard or external effects, and a stereo Aux return. The MultiMix 16 has eight high-gain mic/line (XLR and quarter-inch balanced) inputs, with the remaining I/O connectivity identical to its smaller siblings.

Someone please...

post a review as soon as possible, as I am thinking about purchasing one of these things. thanks.

I'm on Alesis' PR list to get a review sample for a Mac-related Website I write for. I've been on the list for about six weeks now and been told "as soon as they're shipping we'll process your request" ... so hopefully this means I'll get one soon. I'm more of a Mac guy than a pro audio guy, but I'm happy to share whatever I can find out from using it (and happy to take suggestions on how to test it). I'm also now in contact with Phonic to review one of their Helix Board Firewire mixers. So we'll see ...

These mixers almost sound too good to be true :) . Im truly anxious to hear how the pre's sound on this . If they sound good , this may definitly be something i purchase farther down the road. Best of luck to all of you that have bought it. It looks AWESOME.

so... this means that Alesis already has send his mixer so all the dealears? so NOW hte have it on stock?

I, too, am eager to find out whether the 2300 ringgit Malaysia I will spend on this thing will be well worthy enough to replace my entire (or at least huge portion of) recording setup... :)

Well I was very excited to see that alesis may be shipping these things finally! Left an e-mail with zzounds about there status. They have been real good about getting back to me.......just not so good about giving answers I like to hear! This aint their fault though. New gear is often slow to the dealers but quick to the press. I Promise you guys will be the first to hear my thoughts on this thing.

A bit off topic but ... will you be needing a firewire port straight into your sound card? Im unfamiliar with sound cards to the point where im not sure if they have any firewire ports on any. I have a few firewire ports on my computer but im curious if that will be sufficient for the firewire mixer to get the tracks on correctly. Maybe this is a question that i cant get the answer to until its out? I hope you guys get your mixers soon as im anxious to hear what you have to say and i know you guys are anxious to see how they perform too. good luck :)

All you need is a Firewire port on your computer and the proper drivers. Don't need a sound card at all -- this box does it for you. Firewire has plenty of bandwidth to transfer all of the audio data (18 channels on the multimix 16 - 16 individual channels plus a stereo mix ... and also a stereo mix back to the mixer for monitoring). Other companies have quality Firewire interfaces out there that handle this much traffic and then some via ADAT lightpipe.

The question is what kind of quality preamps and other components are in the board and how well alesis implements the technology.

I can vouch for musicians advocate. They got a couple of things to me in the UK pretty quick. I think it was a guy called Brett I dealt with? Good service.

Exactly. I don't feel Alesis has been known for stellar components, but it'd be cool to see them do this thing right.

they're all over ebay for sale... they look exactly like behringer mixers... wonder if alesis outsourced the manufacturing to behringer and branded them as their own...

Alesis claims they own the chip that makes it all work. Doesnt mean they didnt outsource though. Are you sure theyre the firewire boards?
