i'm looking into firewire interfaces with as many imputs as i can manage to find (tho i'm more focused on good quality than number of imputs)... so far i've seen the Firebox and the MOTU 896. I'm curious on your guys' oppinions on these interfaces, or if you all have any recommendations?

The firepod is supposedly pretty decent. Several people here use it. 8 inputs with decent pres.

If you plan on using more outboard pres, the Tascam 1804 does a great job. The 4 built in pres are decent as well.

anyone tried the MOTU? otherwise i think i'll just go firebox.

Motu

I've got a MOTU 828mkII, and it's really neat, but only 2 pre's. The quality is great though - a very nice unit on the whole.

RME Fireface 800. I have one and you won't find a firewire box with more I/O's anywhere else.

I second the RME. Better converters, better preamps, more flexibility, and a solid performer.
