Guitar User.
Ok so i have a firepod that i use with my Mac but i also have my PC laptop set up to record... right now its using a sucky little USB Transit card from M audio...

my question is what is a decent priced firewire card for laptops and how hard are they to either install or find?

i have seen firewire cardbus adapters but they say firewire 400 only, my firepod as far as i know needs firewire 800 to run

can somebody point me onto something to use?

thanks.

i use have one for sale that i used with a firepod and it works great, so if you want it, i am selling it for 50 bucks

No, the FIREPOD is FW400. The only FW800 peripherals in existence, to my knowledge, are high-end external hard drive cases and maybe some Digi hardware.

i am thinking i should just go to comp USA or something and see what they have in stock...

Stick with Adaptech. Other brands use cheaper VIA chipsets.

www.newegg.com

And most manufacturers insist on using Texas Instruments or Lucent chipsets in the firewire cards for their interfaces; you'd better check with M-Audio BEFORE you buy a card...

I run a firepod through a compaq firewire card that uses an NEC chipset. It was like $30-$40 and I've never had any problems with it and the firepod.

a Compaq card you say? that is the brand of my laptop... might check that out then... money is not something i have a lot to throw at with this one... any way the heavy work is done on my Mac any way...
