Firewire Adat?

So I am getting to borrow some great equipment for a big session I am doing next week. 2 vintage neve tube pre's, a stereo pair of cole ribbon mics avalon 737 stereo pre/compressor.
A neumann 147 and a few small diaphragm condenser mics. Being to poor college student I am this is very very exciting. What I could not manage to borrow is a nice a/d.

I will have to rent from a local store. The cheapest deal I could find on what I know to be good converters was $50 a day for Apogee ad-8000.

2 questions
1) Would it be better to get a firewire ambus card with that to go direct into my box, or get the adat ambus card and go into my RME 9652 sound card?

2)I know the unit is old, how does it hold up to the new converters out there. Would it be any real difference to get the rosetta's or u/a. (I do not need a sampling rate over 48, so no problem there.

Thanks

alright alright, my bad they are not tube. They are still good pre's (though not the question at hand).
