Is it just me, or are people going crazy over fireproofing???

Everyone one wants room treatments, fabrics, additives that are flame-proof.

Basically if it can catch fire it doesnt belong in a studio...

Are the musicians and engineers around here tossing lit matches around the studio and juggling fire or what?

Or is everyone in here just fire freaks, that have their carpets, beds, blankets, curtains, clothes, etc... all treated to be flame retardant???

Candles, smoking, electrical arcing / overload are all common fire threats in a studio environment.

Flame resistant, and fire proof products help a fire from getting out of control quicker than as if you were to have a non fire resistant product.
It's piece of mind that you might have those few seconds to grab an extinguisher before it turns into a 911 call. And in some cases fire proof or resistant products can prevent a fire from spreading at all.

My thing is, are these same people just as overly concerned about fire safety in their homes as they are their studios? You know, flame retardant bed sheets...

I think you'd find that most common things like curtains, clothing, furniture, etc. have some fire retardant properties to them. Realistically, it's how you use them. Hanging things on the walls allows for very rapid vertical spreading of fire where something like a couch doesn't as much.

Throw a match on an old furniture pad and watch what happens. Then set the bottom of a piece of untreated cloth hung vertically on fire (do this carefully and outside obviously). I think you'll notice a drastic difference in the speed of the flame spread. Then you get into something like non-fire rated foam which will go up almost explosively.

Any time you have anything that will allow fire to spread vertically, it's an issue and should be treated. It's for your own safety.

whats the best way to treat it Bryan? 3M spray or something else?

There are several products available on the web. Some are a wash in, some are a spray in.
