Firepod + Bass?

Hey, Im getting a firepod and I was wondering how I could record my bass... I dont have an amp for it, my friend pretty much ruined it somehow so the speakers sound like crap. So what Im asking is, would I be able to just run the bass directly into the firepod?
 
I'm in the same line as you are. Right now we are recording using a Firepod and the time to record bass guitars has come...

I will record direct to the Hi-z input in the firepod and also by using the preamp of a Gallien Krueger amp. Tomorrow I'll be checking both options, and I eliminated the idea of miking a cabinet 'couse the acoustics here are not favorable for what I want...
 
I`ve done some takes on the firepod with bass.

It worked fine :)
 
Thanks guys! I dont play bass enough to get a nice amp or anything, so just doing it this way will make it alot easier. You shouldve seen my face when I walked in the room and the other guitarist plugged his head into the input and smoke was coming out of the bass amp... :eek: He's so dumb.

This firepod is looking even better than I though. You guys rock, btw. :)
 
To sweeten up the sound a little, try using a nice preamp. I have a friend who swears by avalon pres for his bass, and the U5 doesn't get a bad rap for under $600.

Agreed. The FIREPOD's instrument pres don't impress me much. They hum too badly with my guitar plugged in. My Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro kicks its ass.

Fortunately, I didn't buy the 'pod for instrument DI recording....

Try changing your bass guitar...I do get very sweet bass guitar sounds with the DI on the Firepod, and I tottally doubt the Vamp can sound as clean as the pres on the presonus thing....

Not on bass. It's single coil pickups on an electric guitar....

The problem is that the FIREPOD has a wall wart, which means it has a floating ground. Coupled with a laptop, which also has a floating ground, and you have a problem. The Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro has a normal three prong plug, so it is grounded correctly.

One of these days, I'll hack together some grounding pigtails for my rack. I haven't done it yet because my previous setup didn't have an actual audio cable, so I had to lose an input or output for that. Hmm. I guess I should go ahead and wire those up while I'm thinking about it. :)
 
Bringing back the dead...

I just set up my firepod today! I got it working great with guitar but Im not sure what to do with the bass. Do I need a DI or can I just plug it in to the back using an instrument cable? I called and they said I can plug it into the back, but I cant figure it out. Thanks :)
 
you can plug it into the front with an instrument cable, i've done recordings on my Firepod using a bass plugged straight in and it worked pretty well.
