FIREPOD and MIDI

Hi guys, i´m enjoying my Firepod so far, but for some reason the MIDI stop working... I mean, i can´t play a Midi file and make it sound.
In Cubase or even on Windows... If i change the MIDI Out to Sint. SW, midi plays great, if i use an VST Instrument (like LM-7), it plays great...

FIREPOD is my soundcard selected on Control Panel... so, i have no idea why i´m not being able to listening to midis files...

Any help?

Thanks!
J.

Its sending signal to the Firepod MIDI out, but that out has to be connected to something to make sound. Are you using a hardware sound module?

Nope... Do i have to use one? Is that the only way not to use the GS SW synth?

ThankS!

yes, you need to connect some kind of hardware sound module to use your firepods midi out. midi is not audio, its musical data.

Thanks Jarocho, i understand how MIDI works... What i´m saying trying to understand is this:

I use the firepod as my main soundcard. Let´s say i wanna hear a midi composition on the Windows Media Player. The only way to do that is choosing GS SW synth on the Control Panel. Is that setup correct? There´s no Firepod synth?

correct, no built in synthesizer.

Any of the cheapest sound modules will blow away the built in onboard sound stuff. Look for a used Roland JV1010 or something. Your world will really open up.

Thanks, Hard2Hard! I´m kind of glad there´s nothing wrong with the FP! ;)
I have a BOSS DR-5 that i use as my click... can i use it as a sound module, right?
And one last question... why should i buy something an external sound module instead of using VST instruments for Midi?

Thanks!

You certianly dont have to. VST instruments are fine, I didnt fully read your first post that you were using them. You should be able to hook your DR5 up and get more convenient use out of it.

Michael, i connected the Firepod MIDI Out to the Boss DR5 Midi In, and sounds pretty bad. Not as good as with the LM-7 Vst for sure...
Should i stay with VsT instruments? What´s the benefit of an external sound module that do not sound as good?

Thanks!

nothing, unless you want to sync the click you use from it or something.
