Firebox playback issues, and power cords...

So I got a firebox, and am having playback issues with it. It appears to record fine, but when I play back audio, either in cubase, or through foobar2000 it will pop and click. This seems to happen when I do anything on the computer, minimizing windows, changing tabs in firefox etc. Anyway, I've disabled my onboard audio chip, closed all extra programs, disabled ieee firewall settings, and changed my cpu setting in the firebox menu from high, to medium, and slow. I have a semperon 3000+, 512mb of ram, and have a pcmcia firewire card, but only a 4200rpm harddrive. However, I don't really think its anything having to do with the computer, because it will record perfectly. When listening to tracks I've recorded, it pops and clicks, but if i listen again, the pops and clicks are in different places. So its just audio playback. Any ideas why?

Different problem: When I plug my laptop into an outlet, I get a lot of humming and noise through the moniters hooked up to the firebox... what can I do to stop this other than only using the battery?

Did you ever figure it out? I am having some issues similar with my Projectmix. I will play all my music fine (using it as my main soundcard) and all of a sudden it will stop working, computer will freeze up and slow down somewhat. I'll have to restart the computer and everything will work . When my computer is off and my project mix is on, I hear clicks through my monitors, I don't know what that's about. I am using my onboard memory card for the firewire. I think the problem is either the memory, the fireweire cable, the onboard firewire, or the projectmix. I'm not sure.

4200 rpm hard drive is really slow. i would expect problems with a single slow drive. how many tracks are you trying to playback? as for the humming problem, you probably have a ground loop. first try powering all your gear from the same outlet. if that does'nt work, start looking into ground loop solutions like the ebtech stuff.

Well, I did a search on DFI forums and saw that there was an update needed for SP2. I was behind on all my updates and never updated to SP2. I updated to SP2 and installed the firewire patch update and everything is running smoothly. Will keep testing it out. It would cut out on me after 5-7 minutes before. So far so good.

Bah, got a little excited too quick... back to square one :(

go into your firebox control panel and set the latency to something longer. for example if it's set to 2.5ms try the 3.0ms. if that doesn't remove the clicks go to 3.5ms. with the firebox and firepod (which i own) if the latency is set too fast (1.5ms) some computers can't handle this so it clicks and pops. increase the latency (4.0ms) and it's a bit easier on the computer and thus eliminates the clicks and pops.
