Firebox, Firewire Question

Hi all, I'm a newb

I want to buy the Presonus Firebox to start recording.

Problem is my computer doesnt have a firewire input.

What do I need to buy? It will go in a PCI slot correct?

My Computer: 2001 Gateway 2gig processer, 1 gig memory.

Do I need to buy a soundcard? Videocard? (I might want to do some video editing later on)

Does BestBuy carry what I need?

you need a firewire card, which will go in a pci slot, which will allow you to use the firebox's firewire connection.

the firebox will be your sound card. i don't see any reason to get a new video card.

Try to get one with Texas Instruments chips (they seem to be the most compliant with the interfaces out there, but you >>>should<<< check with Presonus FIRST to see what they reccomend.

I've emailed presonus, and here's their reply.

A built in firewire connection can be OK, but can also be problematic.

We recommend a PCI firewire card that ONLY has s400 firewire connections. No combo cards. And a card that preferably has a Texas Instruments or VIA chipset.
