Finished Daydreams...Should this version go on our demo ?

I would be especially interested in advice on the three piece harmony parts, I have the middle\higher vocal part more dominant in the mix than the lower\highest parts. It seems to me to be the most natural melody. Does anybody think I might be mistaken here ? (Our drummer does !)

Thanks,

Sorry... I tried to listen, but Nowhere Radio kinda sucks.

All I get is about 30 seconds of stuttering music and then it stops completely.

I know it's not my computer... I've got a new Dell with a 1 gig processor and I have cable internet.

I'll try again later if possible.

Cool. I can never stream any music really, no matter what PC I'm using 'cos Ireland has yet to catch up with most of the rest of the world as far as a decent information infrastructure goes. So think yourself lucky ! Thanks for the effort anyway, I'd recommend to anybody interested to download, if you have the time/patience. NoWhereRadio is still in the early stages of development I believe and streaming isn't that reliable yet.

Streaming depends on a number of factors. Just having a cable connection and a decent computer is a very, very small part of it!

First off, what location are you (where in the world), second, how many routers do you go through, what service provider, and what's your routing table like to the NoWhere central server?

If you need info on how to check this, just drop me a message.

Next thing is what version of Windows Media Player do you have installed? What operating system? And lastly, if streaming doesn't work, why not download?

There is Zero errors with the streaming server, and no buffer under-runs, or lack of connection speed. It's tried and true. But you have to remember there can be as many as 300 computers between you and the information you are accessing. One small problem with any of those... And *poof*.

If you continue to have problem with protected DRM streaming (which NO OTHER SITE USES), I have offered up your typical lame mp3.com streaming, and demonstrated how to link to it, in a previous message. Try it.

One thing I've said to everyone here, is if you have trouble, ask for assistance BEFORE you bitch to people who can't fix your problem. I can only fix peoples problems if I know about them, no?

Apologies Waldo,

I didn't mean to blame your site for something that it isn't to blame for. I took this line on your site...

"Use the hi-fi channels only if you have a high-speed internet connection. The stations are still in prototype, many improvements still to come. Radio station play-lists are currently re-ordered every 24 hours."

to mean that the streaming facility wasn't operating to it's fullest capability yet. Sorry about that. Just for the record though, I wasn't bitching about your site (which I really like) I was bitching about Irelands crappy communications infrastructure.

Here is the direst link to the download and also the mp3.com style stream.

pAp,

The message wasn't as much directed at you as it was Buck62.

Also, you got the streaming link wrong for the 'mp3.com' streaming style link!

Everythings right, up to the port and directory.

:8000/Content/username/filename.pls

Remember that the filename may be modified for the NoWhere server (since certain characters are invalid, such as ") so check the links on the NoWhere site for the filename.

In your case, the link would be:

http://142.59.127.47:8000/content/papillonirl/daydreams.pls

for lo-fi playback, add a 24 in front of the filename:

I pretty much liked the song, but I'm no expert on recording to give you any constructive criticism. It sounded pretty well balanced and equed, and tasteful. The low keyboard sounds pretty muddy. Mixwise, I don't think you are accentuating thright instruments. Especially the clean guitar towards the end of the song: it's too in your face to be strumming those two chords to sound interesting. I would pull the guitar back and let that funky keyboard riff take front stage! Good song though. Singer has a nice voice.

:D

Thanks rats,

I tried to kill those low keyboard notes with eq because I thought they were clashing with the bassline a bit. Obviously it is still audible, I think I'll redo that part, without the lower notes when the bass comes in. I agree fully about the funky keyboard in theory, in practice though it is just that bit out of time (you don't notice when its in the background, and also a little too busy to sit comfortably with the vocal. I may pull back the guitars a bit in that section though.

Thanks again,

pAp.

NICE!!!!

grrrrreat sounding everything......
leave the song as it is.....

I especially enjoyed the way your loudmouth drummer mixed the beat up around the 3:00 marker.

-----only downside to the song in my opinion--the intro is a bit too long....
i think the whole band should be jamming the at around :13 second marker. come in with a double snare flam, jam the main riff 2 or 3 times, then start going at it...
---------only my opinion though.
LOVED it though!!!

(check me out....)

Glad you enjoyed it.

Regarding your thoughts on the long intro...believe it or not when we play it live it is very like you suggested, a shorter intro and a bit faster. I think I just wanted a bit of a change. It's hard to stay objective when you've played the song live so much, you know ?

I'm gonna check out your stuff when I get home from work.

Thanks again,

pAp.

Hi Pap!

Loved the vox!! She's got a nice voice...

Still agree that the low end stuff is muddying things up a bit....but once the vox comes on my focus seems to shift;) ....the "oooooos" are really sweet...liked that a lot.
