Hey folks - I'm looking to have a control/live room built when we move in approximatley 18 months. Anyone know anybody in the area I can contact to help me get started? Nobody I've talked to seems to know a damned thing about this type of construction.

Yes!

Thanks, Rick. I haven't bought the place yet - I'm just figuring out where I need to go to get started. I don't want to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks, Rick.
No prob. Actually, I lived in Sac for 30 years and never found ANY ONE that knows about CORRECT studio design. Especially current trends and information. If you need some PRELIMINARY design services for HOME STUDIO DESIGN, give me a holla here. Commercial design requires LICENSED practicioners to sign off on designs submitted to the Building Inspection Department. of which Sacramento BID is a BITCH!!! Especially when it comes to Title 24(handicap codes) But home studio design is much more forgiving. ;) I'd be glad to help. Give me a holla when the time comes.

One other thing. The BIGGIE in studio design is ISOLATION. This subject has a bearing on the PLANNING stages of design, as it will affect available square footage, as TWO LEAF(mass-airgap-mass) construction and the required TRANSMISSION LOSS will affect the overall designs, and must meet code in commercial settings. Not an easy task. The other is ACOUSTICS, which will do the same. Read this for preliminary info. Scroll down to the FAQs.

Thanks, Rick - I really appreciate it.

I've been recording drums in a tuffshed for a few years now, and although I'm exited about getting a chance to record in a (marginally) larger room, I'm also concerned that I will just be pissing off my neighbors.

The good news is that I don't need an insane amount of isolation. I just need to keep it under the legal limit in Elk Grove. However, permitting considerations (HVAC, natural light, etc.) are going to make that very expensive indeed.

/sigh/

Why didn't I learn the goddamn flute?
