So have you posted anything you have recorded with this way too bitchin home recording studio?

enquiring minds want to know....like me..

Thanks,

TAE

Dude, I hope you don't need anything out of those guitar cases.

Excellent setup.

Question: How and why did you hook up two computer monitors? I've often seen this done and don't know how to get it to work or why to do it in the first place.

Disclaimer: In case you can't tell from that question....me=new to home recording.

I have a few things posted, not much though... I tend to start an idea, and move on to another before anything really good comes of it... (that's a luxury you have in a home studio.... time is free!!) Here's as random sampling of what I have out there though... nothing remarkable, that's for sure... ;)

For the last year or so, it seems I spent more time getting the studio together, and learning how everything works, more than actually making music. That should all change now. (Plus I'm married, so I don't get as much time down there as I'd like...) :(

No problem... 2 monitors is "The Best"!!! :D
Most software programs, Nuendo, Cubase, Sonar, etc... take up a lot of screen real esate, especially if you open more than 1 window (ie- mixer and track inspector, VST instrument, etc)

With 2 monitors, you can see both windows at once, or stretch a mixer across both screens. Your choice. The possibilities are near endless...

To do this, I bought a $15 Matrox Millenium G400 (64 Mb RAM) video card off eBay (where I get everything!!), plugged in both my monitors. Then, in Windows, you click on "Extend My Desktop" onto the 2nd monitor in the settings!!! 2 monitors rocks... I could never go back to one... and even have thought about 3!!!

Oh, and I can walk behind the racks, to adjust cabling or get the guitar cases... There is a 2 foot space between the racks and the wall... just have to watch out forthe cabling and spare gig bags though.... it's a mess!!!!!!!! I have more cases upstairs... I am up to 15 guitars at this point... wife says I need to stop... (But she DOES want me to get a Les Paul at some point... it's the missing link in my collection...no Les Paul's... :( :( )

One of my cats hasn't figured out how to get to and from the cases yet though... :D :D

Beautiful cat....and I hate cats. So thats a big compliment.

Where do you live? Can I come work for whatever company you work for during the day?

How do you handle signal routing with that setup? You must have half a mile of cabling in back of that thing!

Drool, drool....

That's Dusty the cat... (I also have Zippy the cat...) He is 1/2 Siamese, and 1/2 mutt... He is beautiful though... we get compliments on him all the time. His mom was a show cat....
I used to not like cats until my wife brought Zippy home. He's a total lap cat... he has to be "on" me ALL the time if I am sittiing....

Dusty is pretty affectionate too... these guys won me over, and made me forget about dogs...

I work for a disease management company during the day as a database analysis team leader, and I am hiring in Texas and Indianapolis.... How well do you write T-SQL code?? (database stuff) ;)

It's a mess, but I rarely need to change anything... I pretty much record the same instruments, the same way every time, and each has an input on the Delta 1010. I have a Behringer mixer that I used to use for routing (not the preamps), when I only had a Delta 44.

Since the Delta 1010 came, I don't really need the mixer.

The signal chain for each instrument rarely changes...
When I *DO* need to change it, I smartly left about 2 feet behind the racks to walk and move in. (Tracing the cables can be a bitch though...) :D

Well, I have a Delta 66. Guess that means I have to get more gear. Yay!
Any excuse is as good as the next excuse...

I'm still drooling over your pics. At least I've moved my rig into a heated part of the house... I'll post some pics when I can find everything and if I can ever get the dual head video card to work straight... It's a Matrox G450 and is not playing nice with my ASUS board. But I SHALL prevail... :D

Ya see, the cat is actually trying to help you sort out all your cables. Look at how he's staring at those things!!! :D My cat LOVES my studio too man. There's just way more stuff down here for her to hide under/around/in. It's like a playground for both of us really.

Excellent studio... How long did it take you to "develop" it to this stage?

I find that mine is constantly evolving as each year I buy a new piece of equipment or modify some part or other.

It took about 2 years to get together really.... Since I decided to do it in it's own room. Mostly sourced from eBay...

The guitars and amp stuff I had from when I used to play in bands, but those days are long gone. I used to have a Tascam 488 (8 track cassettes recorder, for those to young to remember... ;) ), but a friend showed me his "ACID" based studio about 5 years ago, and that when I first thought about a computer based studio. (That's when I bought the Event monitors, and the Behringer mixer) I used to have the stuff in my home office. Everything else happened in the last 2 - 2 1/2 years...

I think I am done now... my major gear lust has faded, as I realize that my talent and skills need to develop first (and I need to spend more time down there) I have the standard Oktava, MXL, CAD, Shure mics, and a Symetrix preamp, that is fine for me. I really can't blame my gear for holding me back.

The room is perfectly laid out for my needs. Everything is close at hand, and pretty easy to get to. I'm really happy with how it came out. The only other thing I may get is a phone, and upgrade my computer.... And I'd like a MAckie 8 fader extender, but they are ridiculously overpriced.... (Have you ever seen the insided of an MCU???, there's not much there...)

I understand... that was true of me when I was using a Soundblaster card ... Still true, although I've blocked the card from my memory most days.

I did notice we have the same clock. Go SPARTUS!! I've given up trying to set the time. It's like parallel parking with a blindfold on. :D

Nice Rack!!!! ha ha ha. Seriously though, that is a nice setup you got there and I have to agree with most ppl on this thread when I say that I am jelous of your gear.

Nice studio. I hate you, lol...
Yeah, the "neighbor garden always looks greener"
I'm juts starting, hope one day I could have something like your studio. Luck!

Turnitdown, I've got to hand it to ya, you've got a nice little setup there.
