hey guys i have a question about the dmp3. okay basically i have an SB LIVE soundcard and so therefore I use the line-in jack.

To use the two channels on the DMP3 i decided to buy a Y-Adapter with two mono phone plugs going into the dmp3. on the opposite end of the Y-adapter jack i plugged in a 1/4 mono phone plug and on the other end of that is a 1/8 mono phone plug going into the line-in. my question is, is this method going to degrade the sound in any way.

i'm sorry if this is confusing. to make it simpler perhaps, can someone advice me on how to utilize the two channels on the dmp3 recording to a computer without degrading the sound. i need to know what kind of plugs or cable to use.

To use the 2 channels on the preamp into 2 seperate tracks, you should use a Y cord that has 2 mono 1/4" jacks for the preamp side, and a single 1/8" stereo jack on the side going into the line in on the computer, your line input on the SB live card is stereo.

ugh that was confusing... can u rephrase that please???? it didnt make sense to me.. i mean how do you connect the y cord with 2 mono jacks to the preamp.. do you mean y cord with 2 mono plugs

What you're after is often called an 'Insert Lead' - It has a stereo jack on one end, and the left and right are split into two separate jacks, often red (right) and white (left), at the other end. In your case, you also need a little adaptor to make the stereo end smaller - it needs to be 'walkman headphone' size, not 'guitar lead' size to connect to your Soundblaster.

Hope that helps.

Revamp, you are right. They should be plugs, not jacks. More specifically, at one end, you have two 1/4" TS plugs, and at the other end, one 1/8" TRS miniplug. All are male connectors.-Richie

Hmmm is that a plug? I always get jack and plug mixed up. Male is right ... if you're confused about that, check which looks more like the contents of your boxer shorts ... and then check your gender. :) It may be a touch tricky to get one with a minijack/plug on the stereo end ... which is why I suggested an insert lead ... although it may just be that your stores are better than ours ... again :(

Monster makes one that works OK. You're more likely to find it in the TV/VCR/DVD section of a big department store than a Pro audio store, though. HOSA makes one that works for cheap. And *this* is a plug-
Buy my album "Reunion"- It rocks!-Richie

could i find it at radioshack? or maybe bestbuy. and if i wanted to record using just one channel, i can still use this same cord and it wouldn't degrade the sound?
