Finally getting my mic.

After buying other purchases and putting the purchase to the side, i'm finally going to buy the mic i want. An Adk A-51 type V. I've already used this mic at a friends house and i like everything about this mic. Only place i've found to have the type v is Pro Audio Toys. I've never purchased from them so i was wondering if someone here has. Also, the package with the ring mount is 130 while the package with the shockmount is 150. I really don't have any problems with noise from the mic stand so would there really be any difference between the ring mount and shockmount? I have the shockmount from my studio projects c1 and i was going to attempt to use that if there really is a difference. Thanks in advance for your help.

P.S. After this purchase, i'm gonna get the M-Audio dmp3. Been talking bout that for months but never got around to getting it.

If you can spare the extra $20, I'd get the shockmount, especially if you record somewhere where there are any vibrations coming through the floor from the street (e.g. trucks rolling by, etc.). I also record people who like to kind of stomp the floor a little or sway back and forth as they record, so I've found that the Auralex Aural Xpander plat feet (little auralex foam pads you can put under the feet of tripod stands) help with this kind of problem too. Using a hi-pass filter can also help with this stuff.

See that's the thing. I don't have problems with vibrations or anything. I was wondering would there really be a difference, besides looks, in a vibration and noise free room between a shockmount and ring mount.

Maybe not much then. Could you buy it afterwards for around the same price if you felt it was necessary? If not there's always the "universal shockmount": www.shockmount.com

Thanks for the link!! Oh and about the "thin sound", i think my ears were messed up that day. I do still plan to get that dmp3 tho. I'm kinda thinking about getting it first. I hate gear!! I just wish i could get all i wanted at one time and then stop buying!! I don't know. I'd be mad if i went and got the dmp3 and did not hear a significant different over the behringer mixer. I find the highs in the behringer pre's to be very brittle. I hear the dmp3 has smooth highs. If i got the mic, then i'd have my different flavor of sound now and just get the dmp3 later. I'm just gonna do one or the other before i get a chance to think. If i think too much, i'll do the same thing i've done everytime. "I'll just get it later." But i never get it. I'm off to buy!!

No problem man. I recently went from cheap pres (I had an ART TPS I) to decent ones (I have a UA m610, a Chameleon Labs 7602 and 4 channels of Onyx pres on a 1220 mixer) and I find it makes a big difference-- especially when it comes to mixing-- that's where you might notice the biggest difference.
I both hate and love gear simultaneously. Good luck with your buys-- the DMP-3 seems to have a good reputation all over.
