Hello everyone. I am finally giving a usb interface a try. I got excited and bid on the M-AUDIO MobilePre USB 16-bit 48KHz interface. just realized it doesnt come with the drivers. looks like I can find them though. One thing I didnt think about....will this interface only work with ProTools? Thanks

The interface doesn't know what DAW you'll be recording into, so yeah, it should work with any DAW.

You'll just need to make sure your DAW sees the device as it's in/outs, and that it has the right drivers.

It is Protools, that is anal about what interfaces work within it. Most other DAW's are not such dicks about it.

Then again, I remember trying to find 'MobilePre' drivers for someone, and it wasn't easy. Maybe it is a 'plug n play' device that is directly downloaded by Windows? MAC? Hmm....I stay away from all of the PT MA hype, so I am not a good source anyway.

Ah shiz, my bad! I didn't mean to be spouting misinformation nonesense around the interwebs :spank:
I wasn't aware that PT had issues in that regard, but then again, I'm not a PT user..

This might be the driver for it, but this page has no WIN 7 driver. Idk if it will help the OP or not.

You're cool man. Avid dropped all that crap a while back.
They still have an 'm-powered' version that requires an m-audio interface, but standard ProTools will be happy with pretty much any interface these days. (V9,10,11)

Hi Cold,
the installation of the AI is pretty much the standard procedure for usb audio devices (and much other usb kit) .

The manual (you can download that now) tells you to download the latest drivers but run them WITHOUT the AI connected. When all fiddle-faddling is done the computer is restarted and the usb lead connected. The device should then be found and the installation completed.
N.B. Sometimes you need to run the installation more than once, 3 times in some cases. Just let it roll and it should come good.

And welcome to computer recording. It will keep/make you poor but hopefully happy!

Dave.

Timed out to do an edit? Anyhooos....
Jus' a cotton pickin' C! That interface will run 44.1kHz at 24bits and that is how you should use it unless circumstances dictate otherwise.

Dave.
