Sounds pretty slick. VERY good guitar work. I wouldn't worry about the fret noise for a second. The performance is so solid that any squeeks are lost. Is that a synth doing the accompanyment?

Thanks Track Rat. Actually that's a soundfont I came across about two weeks ago or so. The cello on it sounds pretty good I think. At least it sounds better than most other synths or soundfonts I've heard.

Still think I'll record it over though. I just can't seem to get past the finger squeaks. Funny, but they became more pronounced when I put in the cello. I'll have to look into that in another forum and see why that might be.

Awesome! Truly! This is right up my ally, I really enjoyed this. Would you mind telling me what guitar and signal chain you used to record this? Extremely well played and recorded, I look forward to more of this.

Signal chain was - Me , Taylor 710, two MXL v67 mics, Mogami gold cables, M-audio Omni, Delta 66, Dell computer, Emagic (very light program, it came with the Omni), Musicmatch converter, Plexwriter 40,10,40?, then to this lousy Compaq computer to download to soundclick. I think that about covers it.

Oh, no compression, just a little reverb and that's it.

The frett noise adds to the song for me. The sound fonts sound cool to. I checked out that eventide song as well, very good. Is there another version of it? on acoutic guitar perhaps? i'd like to hear it.

Minofifa - There actually is a acoustic version of Eventide for the guitar but for some reason it just dose'nt do anything to me. The emotional feeling I get from the strings seem far more sonically right to me. I may put a guitar part in it if and when I finish the rest of my other recordings.

Yeah, that's about all I ever write anymore except for the odd classical piece I'll write now and then. It's pretty hard to do anything else when you play guitar and can't sing!

I hear you!! I can't sing either. I've been working on fingerstyle guitar for a couple of years now. I really love the melodic, gentle sounds of nylon string guitar playing new age tunes. I don't have the ability to write my own (I've tried with limited success) so I'm always looking for published material. Don't laugh but I got a John Tesh songbook that I've been learning from and there are several pieces that I really enjoy. If you have suggested sources (with tablature) for this type of music I'd really like to know about them.

I feel that when someone wants their work critiqued, they are putting themselves out there, ready to recieve any thing that comes their way. I really dont have any helpful suggestions...the song was off the hook.

Those finger slides add so much more presence and authenticity to the song, please leave em in, they capture the passion of the artist and the notes strike up chord in the soul. Excuse the eloquence, the hot water makes me wanna make love to my woman......ill b bac...

RPE - Sorry! I can't point you in the direction of any good tab manuscripts or books. I learned the old fashioned way. A hell of alot of practice. That and just listening to other fingerstyle guitarist and learning thier songs by ear. Try a Google search. I've heard there are alot of sites for tabs.

Boseafus - The link is www.hammersound.net and the soundfont is Cadenza. It has a violin, viola, cello, contrabass, string ensemble, and slow strings. It was also played on a free soundfont player from www.rgcaudio.com.

Crispycutz - Thanks for the comments. The song is actually based on a place in Arizona where my car broke down. That's where I wrote the second part in about 30 minutes. The first part was a place in California with the same name. Gave me more inspiration and I wrote the first peice.
Agua Caliente is also a drink in South America. I think it's hot water and rum. Just don't quote me on that.

Nice playing. Very nice. I love the nylon sound, and you mic'd it well. I thought the strings could use a little something to make them sound a little more natural although for the most part they're believable enough not to detract from the whole piece. The only thing I would alter would be the strings starting at 2:16; no offense but the playing is a little sloppy and that broke my suspension of disbelief.

Sorry Toorglick, I'm afraid that was a Taylor 710 steel string guitar, with medium strings on it. Don't have a classical guitar.

Does that mean I have a guitar simulator in my fingers?

Ha! No, that means I didn't read your posts. The top end sounded very smooth to me, and the playing was typical of a classical guitarist's (who, obviously, typically use nylon strings), so my mind didn't even stop to think it was a steel string.

Toorglick - Don't worry about it. I've actually thought of using a friends classical to record it, but I hate those damn thick necks on 'em.

Boseafus - Yeah, it should work with any soundfont player. Although I don't know that much about them myself. I just paint in the score and let it rip!
